I'm well aware of the DPS problems with the M&P. What I was referring to was the meaning of the following passage from the article I linked. I do not understand it.

"The agency decided to halt the use of the new handguns after a couple of the weapons experienced slight movement of less than 10 microns after repeated firing of about 3,000 rounds, Vinger said. A micron is one-millionth of a meter. Movement in a gun could affect accuracy with the M&P."

The movement they are referring to was in some of the front sights.

Whomever made that comment about 10 microns of movement has no idea how to make a measurement or what it means.

I wouldn't choose a gun based on agencies choices, some times is how much money goes into the chief pocket, from a gun manufacture.

Most government buying decisions are based on lowest system cost and/or backroom deals.

Manufacturer A agrees to supply holsters, magazine holders and extra magazines or training at the same price as manufacturer B who has a better weapon but can't or won't throw in all the extras.

Or the Chief is a fanboy of manufacturer A (possibly because they have wined and dined him and given him "incentives") so he writes up the specs so that his gun is the only one that could fill the requirements. I've seen this done several times with government contracts.
