Default New M&P 40fs

Well i had an M&P 40 fs a while back and sold it after a while and experimented with CZ, Sig, Springfield, Ruger, Glock, etc and now am back to the M&P. They just shoot nicer for me. Although the Sigs were real nice. Anyway, I had a couple questions regarding the new M&P i have.

The barrel hood doesn't make full contact with the slide when it retracts. The wear pattern shows that the center of the barrel hood does not contact the slide. I confirmed this with a flashlight through the front of the slide when barrel was disassembled.

In the picture you can see the wear line stops in the middle of the hood instead of going all the way across and as can be guessed the slide shows similar wear.

This should be fine, correct? I mean the barrel hood not making 100% contact uniformly across shouldn't cause any premature wear or failures?

Also if you notice where the barrel hood makes contact, the edge seems to be chamfered a bit from the contact. You can see on the far right and somewhat on the far left of the barrel hood cutout in the slide, the edge comes out more.

Lastly, the machining on the breech face seems is gouged a bit in one spot. You can see the little piece that is dented in on the bottom right side of the breech face. It looks like it just was put there when it was machined because it is finished over it. Is this cause for any concern? I didn't notice it when I looked over the gun because it is in a hard spot to see. Plus the breech face was covered in brass.

Thoughts? Thanks for reading my long post.

anybody? The thing I am most concerned about is the rounded edges on the slide after 150 rounds. Is this normal. Can't say I ever noticed it on other guns or even my old M&P.

I take it since no responses were received that this is normal?

I didn't see this until now.

The marks on the barrel hood are a non-issue. That part of the barrel/chamber is not part of the lock up or action. It's just residual wear that happens as the slide moves back over it.

The "gouge" you see in the lower right of the breech face is also a non-issue. It could just be a manufacturing mark. It won't affect the functioning of the gun. Nothing makes contact with that portion of the breech face.

My gun does not have any of the things you've listed. Even so, I think it can all be chalked up to manufacturing variation.

How many rounds have you fired through this gun? How many malfunctions?

It is a new gun 150 rounds. If this is normal, that is great. I just wanted to see what other opinions were in comparison to the M&Ps they own. I owned one a while ago but never noticed if there was wear or not on the slide from the barrel hood. It shoots good right now (for the 150 rounds I shot through it).

I can't honestly say if it's normal or not. Mine doesn't have those marks. I'll bet most of the M&P owners wouldn't even notice the things you did.

From what you've posted, I don't think you'll have any issues. You might lose some of the finish on the barrel hood, but that's about all.

Here's some pics I took of my stock barrel in my Core 9, this was at around 20-25K rounds IIRC.
