M&P 22 Inserting New Mag when Slide open
I have noted that if my slide is open and I try to insert a new magazine, it jams. It happens everytime. If the slide is closed there are no issues with the reload. I believe I have seen others mention this, but not seen any ways to fix this. Any input would be greatly appreciated.

After inserting the mag, how are you operating the slide?

If you use a little too much force inserting a magazine with the slide open, the top cartridge has a tendency to tilt up a bit causing it to jam when you release the slide.
Two potential fixes -
1. Don't slam the magazine in - light pressure is all that is needed
2. Close the feed lips of the magazine slightly with a pair of needle nose pliers. It won't take much, so don't overdo it

Rastoff, I can't even close the slide because the bullet is blocking the chamber.
MKBruce I will try that next time out. With my M&P 9c I have gotten used to slamming the mag in so maybe that is the issue.

I understand that the slide is not closing. The question is, how are you trying to close the slide? Sling shot? Press slide stop?

There is a trigger safety that prevents the trigger from being pulled when there is no magazine present. It's about an inch from the opening/ejection port of the slide down in the magazine well; you should see a short, fat silver lever obstructing the magazine well. This lever should flip upward out of the way, does it? The only other thing that may prevent a properly functioning magazine from being seated - that I can think of - is the folded metal tab on the left side of the slide lock lever. It sits inside a slot cut into the magazine.
Here is my instructional post on the assembly of this gun. If you read through it you should get a good understanding of how this gun functions and it may help you troubleshoot your problem.

There is already a bullet that is mis-fed. I try to sling shot, but it is blocked by a bullet. I believe that MKBruce has it right, it might be the force is sending a bullet into the chamber before I even try to do anything with the slide.

Several of us use ours for non-sanctioned IDPA and we all had this problem when we did a fast reload. I called S&W customer service and the guy told me to tweak the feed lips which I did to all eight of my mags. They now all function perfectly during a fast, hard reload.
