If you are going to put a red dot sight on it I can see no disadvantage. For me shooting with open sights the longer sight plane of the 5" Pro is a big advantage. JMHO.
I'd like to thank the OP for the thread. I am trying to decide between the two as well. But since I plan to put an optic on it, the extended sight radius matters not at all (duh-me!). While the thread is open, can anyone who knows compare the size of the 4 1/2 and 5 to something I'm familiar with - which is an H&K USP 9 (either the full size 9 or the compact 9)? That is, is the 4 1/2 longer than the full size 9 USP? Shorter? I live in CA, don't see them in shops (they are not on the 'list' and have to use a single shot exemption process) and so will not have the opportunity to handle one before buying.
Thx,
B

There's more than sight radius advantage to the longer slide, the extra half inch of barrel helps accuracy and I find the extra weight helps with follow up shots. Don't have an HK to compare but I'm sure there are dimensions on the respective manufacturers websites.
