Default M&P SHIELD FTE MALFUNCTION FIXED AS OF 5/23/14 YET?

Guys, I currently own a M&P Compact 9mm and love this gun so much! Works absolutely great no issues period. Wish it was as accurate as my tricked out Glock 34 but realize you can't compare the two.

I am now looking to get the M&P Shield, but read many articles that most pocket pistols have issues with 115 gr bullets. Also heard because everything is so miniaturized, they will not be as reliable as the bigger autos. Right now I am worried about buying the Shield because I don't want to end up with a chronic problem that will result in gun being shipped back to Smith and Wesson when it fails to eject cartridges. Have Smith and Wesson fixed and addressed this issue yet? Does the gun still jam a bit?

I can't speak overall since I didn't even know this was a common issue here, but I'll say my Shield has been more consistent with 115 grain rounds than my late gen 3 glock 19.

Just called and spoke to Smith tech support. Was told that the coating they put on the barrel, was significant enough to cause the barrel to not go into full battery and it would take 3 good cleanings before the shield would cycle .

I have one of the first Shield 9's that came out and have had zero issues with it shooting 115 gr. Same for my 9c. All my FS 9's handle 115's just great and were tack drivers right out of the box.

115g is mostly what I run (and most available) and have had zero issues w/ my Shield. 2000 rds so far and a satisfied customer. You won't go wrong...remember, more complaints are posted than happy ones! Buy it and don't look back, unless of course your checking 360 deg.

Same here... Didn't know about this issue. Where did you read about this?

I've put several thousand rounds though mine over the last two years (mostly 115gr) and have not experienced any problems... So far, anyway.

What issue? Guess my Shield didn't get the memo. Shoots both 115 and 124 with no problems.

I shoot 115 gr bullets all the time and have no FTE. I never have, so not all Shields are exhibiting a problem. My Shield has been very reliable from the beginning. The only FTE I had was with Tulamo and that was only one or two out of 300. I have over 1000 rounds out of the Shield and I still cannot believe how reliable it is. I love it.

I have a 9c made in 2010 and a Shield9 made in early 2013. All my range ammo is Winchester white box and I've had zero malfunctions with the Shield and zero with the 9c since I fixed the extractor.

Got mine as soon as they were available. No issues feeding, ejecting, extracting, or firing. Had the early out of battery during presscheck non issue which corrected itself after about 400 rounds.

I have over 2000 rounds through my Shield 9mm and have had no problems with FTE. All of them have been 115 gr.

The only problem I have with M&P's is I keep buying them. I have never had one single issue with my shield, fs9,9c ,M&P 15, 15-22 etc. Be sure to go over the new shield of you buy one. Check everything and the fired casing date to see if your getting a newer most recent build.

Shield 9mm here and no problems with function... Everything I have fed it has been 100%.

However, the hidden portions of my mag release (the parts you can see when you depress the button) developed surface rust. I would have thought all of the metal parts would be made from stainless just like the slide and barrel.

...and a sight dot fell out.

Pistol was cleaned and lubed, TW25, before shooting.

I've sold at least a dozen Shield 9mms', can't say for sure what ammo or how much they've been fired but yet to hear of a problem from them. I load a 115 LSWC to shoot through mine and haven't had any problems.

The tech support person is very inexperienced to have made up that story. LOL

My shield 9 was a problem child out of the box (Nov 2013 production), and went back twice before they got it to where it would reliably handle 115gr. 124gr was 100% good.

First trip back they tried to "repair" too many things, second trip they "replaced". After all that, it will shoot anything I put through it (a major improvement, as 124gr was hard to find). It still has a random FTB / 100 rounds (115 gr; 124 & 147 work without issue), but they have just sent me a new recoil spring assembly, which is slightly different from the old (looks a bit cleaner in assembly).

I have been very impressed with CS and their willingness to get the weapon right.

I think I did ok with the choice, and have to remember that I can break anything, sometimes just by sitting in the same room.

My Shield 9mm is a problem child with 115 gr. ammo.
On 5/24 I shot about 80 rounds of 3 different kinds and had several failures to extract. Stovepipes and cases left in the chamber.

Gun is not completely broken in yet, and my hold needs work with that thin grip. It's possible that I was limp wristing. One more range trip to decide if it goes back to S&W.

I haven't seen a shield having problem dealing with 115gr FMJ in this forum so far.
The only problem my shield has is dealing with JHPs'. It's been back to S&W twice since I got it at the end of Jan. They replaced the extractor and barrel each time. It's better after the second trip but is still not problem free. I am out of country for the next two months, so have to wait till Aug to send mine back to S&W again. I guess this time they will try to replace the recoil spring assembly....

I got the new recoil spring, put it in, and things actually got worse. Long story short, it left for the homeland again Friday. The guy at Fedex recognized me.

I did have people offer to buy it at the range as I was cussing it.

We'll see what they do. The CS guy (had talked to him before, and he did look up my history) wants it resolved as well. They are probably tired of talking to me.
