After a couple years of convincing myself that mp9c was comfortable enough with my CB supertuck iwb, I finally caved. On paper the shield isn't too much smaller, but after handling my buddies shield 9 a few times, it's all too clear that the width difference is going to make all the difference in the world, comfort wise, iwb.

I found a decent deal online for $369, called my ffl and asked what his transfer fee was... and to my surprise, he said he would match the price if he could get hold of one. Called me back 15 minutes later, and said that for $410 otd (shipping and MA taxes), it could be mine as soon as he got it in. That's all I needed to hear.

Already placed an order for another CBST, cowhide this time. Boy I can't wait to get this shield in my hands, get some rounds down range, and toss this baby on my hip as my new CCW. Although I don't know how long it'll be MY ccw once my girlfriend's LTC comes in the mail. Someone may be hunting for another shield sooner than he may like...

Still not certain what the future holds for my 9c... It's got all of the apex parts and some trijicon night sights. Not sure if I should part with it or keep it, seeing as it is my first handgun.

Congrats on your new piece. Hang on to your MP9c, especially if its your only other gun. Things can break or you may have to give it up if used, so you might want to have a second around.

I went around the block with carrying different styles of firearms. I was thinking a single stack would save me all kinds of carry grief, but I found for me that it was not harder to carry a double stack versus a single stack once you have a decent belt and holster. I carry a single stack occasionally, but usually for deeper carry occasions with a smartcarry holster. I like having options when choosing what fits the current situation best.

I've got both crossbreed supertuck and a nice crossbreed gun belt. It's just the fact that I'm 5'7 and 140 lbs soaking wet, with pockets full of quarters, after eating a huge meal. Being such a small framed guy, the double-stack can feel somewhat cumbersome after a bit.

I do agree with you on keeping the 9c around in case I have an issue with the shield. Good thinking

In the People's Republic of Taxachusetts, a double-stack without pre-bans gets you nothing except a wider grip.

A wider grip, and a couple rounds. IMO it's not particularly worth the trade off. The more compact shield just seems like the better option here in this "state".

Had the shield come out a couple months earlier when I was shopping for my CCW, I would have picked it up rather than the 9c. It just fits the bill for what I'm looking for in a carry gun here in Massghanistan.

Congrats on the Shield. I just got one this past week as well and love it. As you can probably tell from my moniker, I have been a Beretta guy but have recently gained an affection for the M&P line. I started looking at the full size versions because I like high capacity, but I kept working my way down in size as the temperatures began to go up. I almost went with the 9c just because you have the option of larger magazines, but ended up going with the Shield just because it was overall more convenient. It carries very comfortably in an IWB (my only other carry gun has been a full size 92FS, so you can imagine the difference), and I am also able to carry it in the pocket when necessary. When fall/winter comes back around, I may pick up a full size, but for now the Shield fits all of needs.

Congrats. I'm primarily a Glock guy but love my shield. Good for you on having your FFL match the price. They will often do so from my experience. Shoot often, smart and safe!

Now it's just a matter of doing something with the 10+lb trigger when I get the gun. I'm not looking to lower the pull weight all that much, but instead, clean up the pull and smoothness. There's a new armorer close to me that has good reviews. I'll most likely take it to him and let him do a trigger job rather than taking out factory parts and replacing them with apex parts.

Massachusetts - Where you buy a gun (from a very small list of approved ones), and then pay another 25% of the guns value to get it on par with a free state's version. Got to love it!

The "Marsha Tax"...

I have the 9c + crossbreed supertuck and have been thinking of picking up the shield for the warmer months. The 9c in the warmer months and shorts doesn't work that well for me, but in the winter it's great! I'm thinking the shield may be a better summer time CCW?

I have been carrying a 9c in a Crossbreed ST for many years, Winter and Summer. I bought a Shield when they first came out and carried it in another CBST. After 6 months I just didn't like it as much as my 9c...didn't like the Safety even though I never used it, the slide is much harder to cycle by hand, and it carries fewer rounds. I ended up trading it for a new M&P 45c and it has now become my everyday carry gun. I am keeping my 9c as a nightstand gun because it has a CT laser and has been flawless for the 8 years I have owned it. Don't mean to discourage you...just sharing my experience with the Shield.

As I said earlier, the warm weather is what made me decide on the Shield. Whenever I use an IWB holster, I have to wear an undershirt to be comfortable. When it's hot, that's no fun. The shorts I wear have pockets that are pretty deep and can hold the Shield and a Nemesis holster without a problem, so warm weather pocket carry is great. Having that carry method available with a gun that still shoots much like a full size is having the best of both worlds. I had asked on different threads here on the forum about the Shield and pocket carry before buying, and the responses were mixed and mainly depend on the individual and what you wear. Thankfully it's worked out for me.

I definitely won't be able to pocket the shield. Just looking at the specs on paper I didn't know how people were managing to do so, and after holding one, it surprised me even more that people were able to.

I guess in cargo's it could be done, but I really wouldn't want to try drawing from pocket carry after becoming so used to drawing from IWB. Maybe with a small pocket .380 or something, but not with a shield. To each their own. Whatever gets the job done.

Congratulations on the 9 Shield. I have both the 9c and the 9 Shield with a Crossbreed Supertuck. Both have their place and I use them accordingly. The 9c in colder weather and the 9 Shield in summer months. Both carry great and serve their purpose well.

I'm looking forward to having both a horsehide and cowhide CBT. I've always wanted to try both side by side. I do like the look of the black cowhide that I just ordered for the shield quite a bit though. I'm hoping wait time isn't too bad. This is what comes up on their site...

The Shield is a great carry option, but I also recommend keeping the 9c. It can be a good home defense gun and a secondary carry option if your shield ever needs work done on it.

Side note: there were 2 MA compliant ones online that I got my ffl to price match. Since they restocked in their site, the price has skyrocketed from 369 to 481. These things are selling good in MA
