Ok, Here's the deal. I have a good iwb holster for my 9c, but with the summer months, have noticed that its a little harder to conceal & kinda tight. Been thinking bout getting a shield 9mm. I have noticed that the shield is MUCH thinner that the 9c. Would I be correct to presume that a shield iwb holster would also be thinner, than say a 9c iwb holster? If anyone would have pic's of a compact holster beside a shield holster, that would be awesome!!! Thanks

I carry a Shield 40 in an Old Faithful IWB holster and have done that for almost 2 years. I carried a 40c in the same style Old Faithful IWB for a year before that... in Florida... in the summer... in shorts and a Tank, and never found it uncomfortable. The Shield 40 disappears a little better than the 40c, though not enough to be concerned. Images have been posted on the forum in the past, but for your request...

Yes, the IWB holster for the Shield is thinner than the Compact.

It's not the best picture, but you can easily see the Shield holster is thinner.



The Compact holster is a Galco KingTuk.
The Shield holster is a Bladetech.

I actually like the Galco better, but the Bladetech works.

Yes much thinner even so much thinner that I considered an OWB holster and decided to give it a shot. Went with the Comp-Tac paddle for the Shield and it has been awesome. I live in C. Florida and carrying can be a challenge in this heat which is why I prefer OWB carry. This holster is easy on, easy off and just with a throw over shirt, you can't even tell you are carrying. Just my opinion and something to consider.

What is "kind of tight" when carrying in the summer? Is it your holster due to heat or is your summer clothing wear smaller in size?

If thin is what you are after then go with a Shield (or similar single stack) along with an all kydex holster. Only way to get thinner is to use a trigger only cover.

Even a compact can benefit from using an all kydex holster. Have found a single clip holster might "walk" a bit on the belt sometimes and may need an occasional minor adjustment, but it's usually not a big deal. If it is to you, then perhaps a Remora or Sticky holster might make your compact carry less "tight" to carry in summer? Just a thought.

I tend to wear a double stack most times. My wardrobe can handle it comfortably because I choose and buy clothing with that task in mind. Can carry a double stack 45 in shorts and a t-shirt quite easily.

Think a person with only a double stack should keep it and consider adding a small single stack when they can. That and adding some different types of holsters will add significantly to your carry options compared to what a single IWB holster and double stack gives you for carry situations that come up. I prefer having options.
