Default First day at the range with my new Shield 9

All I can say is OMG. I purchased the Shield despite the numerous "issues" reported on this thread. So, it was with a certain amount of anxiety that I took my new gun out to the range. I only got to put 100 rounds down range; but, if I'd had the money, I could have easily sent 1000 down the pipe. I'd read about inability to rack the slide, FTE's, ejections to the face, POI being low and left, light strikes, etc. I had none of that so I guess I'm one of the lucky ones. I shot 115 gr WWB FMJ's from 3 - 25 yards with the majority at 7. Rapid fire at times and I was dead on. All but three rounds were on the paper and the three that were not came at the 25 yard mark. The trigger was smooth and sweet, especially compared to my SD40VE. It conceal carried well in a Desantis IWB holster. In short, the Shield was everything I'd hope it would be. I love my SD40VE; but, I think if I'd bought this first, I'd only need one gun. Of course, the SD does punch a bigger hole so it serves it's role as an HD gun well. My challenge, if I can only afford to shoot one gun each month, with one will it be :-)

You have to put it into perspective. It might seem like a lot of people reporting problems but when the reports are compared to the total number of Shields sold, it is a relatively very small amount of actual issues. Plus, many (not all) of the reported issues are actually the fault of the gun owner not using the gun correctly or understanding how it was made to operate and function. Personal preferences also creep in and get mixed up with malfunctions and issues. There are a few issues, but overall the Shield is a quality choice.

Are you sure??!! No issues at all??!! Stop pulling my leg. WOW! I'm glad to read a positive thread about the shield. I too suffer with no issues with my Shield. Heck ...none of my S&W M&P's have never had an issue. Not even this so called "gritty trigger" some people talk about. None of my wife's M&P's ever had an issue either. I'm sure there are more people like us somewhere out there.

The Shield 9 is a FANTASTIC gun. I too have had "zero" issues with mine...and don't anticipate any in the future. It's a pleasure I look forward to every time I'm able to get to the range.

WHAT THE HECK ???? None of you have had ANY issues with your shield? It MUST be a conspiracy because I haven't either ! My G 19 is really pissed off because I shoot the shield even more accurately than the G 19. I have no idea why but....it is what it is....

Congrats on your new firearm. I also love my Shield, no issues at all.

I also shoot the Shield better than I do Glock pistols.

I could have written the OP!! Today was also my first range day with my Shield, and I had the same worries. Read about FTE/F, horrible, stiff slide (well, it is pretty stiff, but not unworkable!), accuracy problems, etc. I didn't see any of this. 135 rds of FMJ - Blazer Brass and WWB - and 7 Gold Dots - just to make sure they worked.

Put me down as a very satisfied customer!!

nearly a 1000 through my shield 9 and the only issues(fail to ejects/ejecting into her face) was because my wife had the wrong grip. once i noticed that, it's been flawless.

only need one gun? bite your tongue...i said that when i bought the sigma a few years ago...now there is a sigma(40s&w), a 40c, a 586, and two shields(9&40s&W). i'm trying to decide what is next. i don't have a 1911 so...

Congrats!

I say this "partly" in jest;

After about 40 years of shooting, I didn't know guns had problems until I joined my first gun forum. LOL!

Just remember, for every guy beotching about problems on the internet, there are countless happy owners out there having a good time with their gun.

My SD is running smoother every day, just like a Timex.

Enjoy your M&P, I'm thinking about one too, maybe the 45.

One of our bigger local gun stores just put the Shield on sale. My wife has been wanting the 9mm, so I'm going by on payday this week to pick her up one.

Glad you had much success, and are happy with your Shield. Although mine is a .40, and only have a little over 400 rounds through it, I'm here to say, not one failure of any kind. I've put 5 different brands of target stuff, 2 of SD stuff, both 165 and 180gr, and she just keeps purring along. 9 or 40, I think the Shield is a great little gun. PS. Happy for you too tcook90.

I just came back from the range putting another 200 or so rounds through it, all mixed, and enjoyed every second of it. I think the only thing I haven't tried is steel case ammo and I have no reason to think it wouldn't perform flawlessly with it. A lot of the ammo I used today was 5 to 10 years old and some was new...mixed grain and load. Now I just need to find a local dealer that carries Corbon 9mm.

I'm sure you will like your decision.

I was at the range this morning and tried a very inexpensive box of 115 FMJ ($13/box of 50). Had two FTEs. Looks like the shell wasn't grabbed by the extractor. Never had one FTE before and to have two from the same box says it's ammo related.

I used another 150 rounds of 124 FMJ NATO and 115 FMJ Target loads with no problems. Good thing I only bought the one box of cheap stuff.
