M&P9c Porting
I decided to get my slide milled and barrel ported on my M&P9c. Total of 12 ports (6 on each side). Coating is Duracoat Bronze. I ran Cerakote for a year and figured I would change things up a bit and try something new. Who else has done this?
I'll be reporting back on this thread after I shoot it about the effects on recoil and flash.

Please post a top view pix of the barrel top flat area and adjoining dished out area. Did you do that yourself?

I like the Cerakote job.
I await your range report on the porting. I have a 9C too.

Porting looks nice, that's for damned sure.
I know it reduces recoil by a percentage. Something like 25%, along those lines, IIRC.
I looked into this for my Ruger GP100 in stainless.
From what I understand, what you gain in a percentage of recoil reduction, you make your weapon louder.
I could be wrong, but this is what I've heard from others familiar with porting.

I shot a Glock 19 that had this done to it side by side with another Glock 19 that was still original. Felt recoil was reduced by somewhere around 50% (at least thats what it felt like), there was no blinding flames (shooting out in the desert at night), and it seemed slightly louder...but not by much.
I know the G19 is a different gun, but I would expect the M&P to be similar in the results.

I think I'm going to print a picture of your 9c out, and put it in the nightstand with my 9c... maybe it'll get so envious that it'll get itself ported and refinished.
Nice looking piece brokn

So I got out to shoot yesterday. To sum it up all I can really say is WOW!
There are positives and negatives to it that I'll run through really quick.
POSITIVES
RecoilFelt recoil is very noticeably reduced. This was my biggest objective behind doing this. A few years back I had a severe wrist injury on my shooting hand (work injury cut my wrist severing the radial artery and damaging tendons, ligaments, and nerves requiring surgical repairs). I can shoot ambi, however shooting left handed just doesn't "feel right". When I fire with my strong hand (right) I start to struggle after a few magazines. I fired 100 rounds and my wrist did a lot better handling the recoil. Muzzle Rise & Split TimesFollow up shots seemed to be much easier and faster while being able to stay on target. I've always though of myself as a good shot. I generally group in the 3 inch range at 20 feet with "rapid fire". I was able to get the 2nd, 3rd, etc shots off a bit faster while being able to maintain consistent grouping. I didn't have a timer to verify split times beore and after....however I have a pretty good idea of how I shoot (especially after 16,xxx rounds in this gun) and I felt that it was a bit faster. LooksI've never been a big fan of cutting holes in a barrel and slide. That is why I chose the simplest ports that I possibly could. I do have to say though, it ads a bit of a unique look to the gun and sets it apart from other M&Ps out there.... NEGATIVES
CleaningThe gun runs MUCH dirtier. After shooting 100 rounds it was about as dirty as shooting 500 rounds before it was ported. This isn't that much of a concern though because I've gone several thousand rounds in this gun without cleaning in the past....so on a reliability side of things I'm not so worried about being dirty affecting it. NoiseThis is really my only "complaint". The gun is quite a bit louder now. Hearing protection is an absolute must. In a defensive situation (this is my carry gun) the deffening sound might be a concern, but its outweighed by being able to control the gun better and get faster follow up shots on target.
Overall I would say that the porting was well worth doing and I have no regrets. Gun still functioned 100% reliably and put holes on target.
Here are a few pictures to illustrate how dirty it got.
