Default S&W Shield Mag Safe

Hi new to the site so please bear with me! I just bought a new 9mm Shield CA Compliant and I want to remove the mag safety can anyone recommend a good web site or you tube video to use for the removal of. I have the new spring ready to go but I thought I read the Shield was different than the other M&P's as far as removal.

Thank you and everyone have a great day !

Why do you want to remove the mag safety? What's the point?

I agree that a mag safety is dangerous, for a SD gun. Should your mag get partially dropped, at least you can get off one shot, without the mag safety. You can't get off even one shot, with a mag safety. And yes mags can and do get accidentally dropped. I have seen this numerous times with LEO training and qualifications. I have not seen a gun where the mag safety could not be eliminated, but I have no experience with the Shield mag safety. If there is a video, just search YouTube for "Shield magazine safety", and you will likely find it. I would think it is designed the same as the other M&P handguns, and if so, it should be easy to remove.

Agree to disagree. I carried a Browning Hi-Power for 10 years that had a magazine safety, and never an issue. That debate raged on internet forums for years...to remove or not to remove...

Some swear by them - a large agency up north just switched over to the M&P, with the requirement that all guns have a magazine disconnect. Others don't want it at all, others could care less either way.

If the magazine safety is what makes your gun Kalifornia compliant, I wouldn't remove it at all...instead of removing a factory safety device, remove the dead weight in Sacramento...

California requires it and getting caught with it removed would put you at the table of the defense council. One, purported, reason is that should you be in a fight for retention of the gun, and find yourself on the loosing end, you could disable it by releasing the magazine. Another reason is that, with the magazine removed, should a child find the gun, it would not be functional.

The benefits of the law VS the detriment of a non functioning gun will probably be debated for years but if you are caught without the mag safe your opinion will carry no weight.
