Default Barrel Lengths of M&P40's

I have been looking for a good used M&P 40, and I have noticed that some are listed as 4 1/8" barrels, and then some are 4 1/4" barrels.
Was there a production change, or what's the deal ?
These lengths are written on the end of the factory box, not in the description on the internet site.
