Default Fiber optic sights

I shoot IDPA with th M&P 9 full size and could use some advice on upgraded sights. I have heard Truglo is weak in anything but direct sunlight. In addition to make and model any sugs on installation would be appreciated

I use Truglo TFO sights. They are bright in daylight and night. This is my FS9 behind a glass door. Pics do not do it justice. For the money they are worth every penny.

I like the tru glo tfo also......they seem bright to me in all light conditions.....i have the green front amd rear on my m&p....When my wife said see wanted a pair all i could only find the green yellow.....After shooting with those i think the green yellow is better in cloudy or dim condition the contrast between the 2 colors seems to make them easier to pick up

Since you're even asking this, I'm guessing you have not done any Sight swaps (especially night sight swaps) yourself.

While many people have done sight swaps using brass punches, I would not suggest using a punch yourself if you go with night sights. There are many reports of rupturing the capsules when using punches. Heck... People have ruptured the capsules when being too aggressive with presses.

While 'ajames51' (a member here) mostly works with Springfields, he does own and like his Shield and sells Shield specific night sights on his site: Smith & Wesson

If you buy through him, he'll usually install for free.
I know that if you do a Slide Refinishing, he'll install the sights for free. James does great work.

If we are talking competition as opposed to self defense, don't bother with a Tritium-FiberOptic-type of night sight. You are paying for a feature you don't need for shooting in the daylight.

I went with a Truglo TFO on the FS M&P 40 slide, as this is how I normally leave the gun set up for home defense, where there is a potential need for shooting in the dark. Also remember that the tritium light source WILL fade eventually.

I use the 9mm slide for occasional competition shooting and range practice, always on a lighted range or outdoors during the daytime. For this kind of shooting I like the Williams Fire Sights. They are very bright, even in dim light conditions.

Better yet, the Fire Sights also come in an adjustable model, which is more critical for my FS M&P 9 as the point of impact is highly dependent on the type of ammunition and range. They are also CONSIDERABLY brighter than the Truglo TFOs in the daylight.

As for installation, I bought a sight-pusher. Strictly speaking, you don't need one for the Fire Sights, but I did need it for the TFOs. I went with this product: Fisher Solutions - Handgun SIght Tool - El Cajon, CA

I compete with an M&P full size in 40 S&W. When shooting minor power factor in 40, most M&P's shoot low. So I went with the Dawson Precision fibre optic front sight, in order to choose the height that would raise my point of impact since I prefer a 6 o'clock hold rather than a combat hold. Great sight plus it gives me the point of impact I prefer.
