Default S&W 44spl MDL 24-3 99.8% Bl 6 1/2

I was wondering what my wife's Model 24-3 S&W target (ejector) revolver (6 1/2) is possibly worth. It's never been fired and has 99.9% blue with original grips, box and even the wax paper still in the box. It's an absolutely beautiful piece. She received it as a wedding gift from her dad 26 years ago and therefore she never used it. I have had someone tell me it's probably worth over 5K because of its unique condition. It even has the original inspection label on the bottom of the grips.

Any guidance would be welcomed! I have some great pictures if anyone is interested.

Two years ago, when I bought mine, the range was $700-$800. The 24-3 is a fine revolver, but not over $5K fine.

Wow, I saw a few that sold between the $2400 - $3K range. I guess I will just keep it for a few years and see what happens since there is no rush in selling it.

Thanks for the feedback!

Are you sure it's a 24-3? If it were an earlier vintage 44 HE, it could certainly approach or even eclipse 5k.

It's in the original box etc... never fired. What does 44 HE mean?

Before 1957, the 44 Special did not have a Model number, so the name of the revolver was 44 Hand Ejector.

I would offered it to whomever said it was worth 5K for the bargain price of 4K.

Is it 99.8% or 99.9%? That makes a huge difference....

Welcome to the Forum.

I'm guessing that the person that gave you that $5K value didn't offer to buy it, did they?

Found this 24-3 in 98+% condition last year for $600; no box/papers though. The second picture is a 1950 44 HE (pre 24) that might be worth towards $3K in today's market. Neither get close to $5k. . . . .yet. Your 24-3 is a great gun though that will increase in value over time.

It would seem the OP doesn't understand the vintage of his 44, as evidenced by posting in the 1896-1961 Forum while asking about a 24-3 made in the 1980s.

To the OP: yes, 44 Hand Ejectors from the period correct for this forum are worth thousands. Your revolver, of much more recent manufacture is worth hundreds. Sorry to burst your bubble.

Dave
