Default Newbie to Shield w/questions

Hi, everyone. I've been flipping sub compacts (mostly single stack 9mms) like they're extras in a kung fu movie. I finally picked up a new Shield (w/o the safety) and I have a couple of questions.

One, are the magazines stainless steel? I read that they were, but they don't seem like it to me.

Two, and more importantly, assuming I keep my factory sights for now, the right rear dot isn't filled in all the way. The funny thing is that the XDS I just got rid of had the opposite problem; the right rear dot had too much paint (it was a convex blob of paint). What should I do? I hate to try painting it and making it look less than perfect, but what is S&W's customer service like?

Thanks!

Welcome!
Are the Shield mags Stainless Steel? I believe so. Mine haven't shown any signs of rust in over two years, so it seems like it.

As to the rear sight dot... To me, It's not worth sending it in to the factory just for the sight dots. I don't use paint though... I'd use either Fingernail Polish and make the dots whatever color you want (yellow, red, Alien Green, pearl white, etc).

Find the color you want your rear sights to be, clean out the sockets real well, buy some Fingernail Polish in the color you picked and go for it. If you get a little messy, some **Non Acetone** polish remover will clean up any overage.

This is basically the same as if you wanted to color your engravings.

Agreed fingernail polish seems to work best. I found that if you take and dip the end of a toothpick in the polish and just touch it in the hole it works very nicely with very little mess. The mags are some form stainless and what I mean by that is for some reason a magnet will stick to them but they don't rust. Good luck my friend.

that's a great idea guys (using nail polish). I used automotive touch up paint to put the read dot back on the striker status indicator of my Walther PPS. That seemed to have held up well, but it was close to $15. I think nailpolish is half that depending on what you get (according to my wife). I also like the idea of maybe putting a more muted color on in the rear (and this is the perfect excuse). Any suggestions? I obviously want the white front to stand out more.
