Default M&P 22 Compact Announcement

Anyone just get the e-mail from S&W?

I just bought an M&P22 last month, would have waited if I had known there would be a compact.

The Italian mafia might be interested, as they supposedly conduct business with .22s.

Appears to be much closer to the centerfire M&Ps. I wonder if the backstrap can be R&R'ed? We will never see it in CA.

Didn't see this coming. I like it. The three dot adjustable sights are a plus. Wonder if the 12rd mags will work in it? Could've done without the safety.

As an owner of a M&P 22 (and 9mm FS) I'll be interested to see how the design of this differs from the other 22 other than size.

The M&P 22 is still on the S&W site but hiding only under the 22 Rimfire pistol page, not under the M&P section like it was. I wonder if it's being phased out. I know it was manufactured for S&W by Walther. I wonder if the new Compact is manufactured by S&W.

Edit: I'm also curious if the fancy rear sight would work on the "FS" 22. Could be a nice upgrade.

Looks like it would be fun to shoot. I wouldn't mind having one just for fun.

You may be able to SSE it in CA until the end of the year. S&W certainly won't be trying to microstamp it to make it "CA friendly".

With rimfire @ $0.10/round at this time (if you can find it), I'd rather be shooting soda cans with my M&P 40 at 6 cents/round.

They make a bigger splash

Where can one locate this $0.06/round deal on 40?

At least the new Compact is made in house which is good. I'm looking forward to the first range report here.

22plinkster has a video up on YouTube with the 22 compact and they said it was manufactured by S&W not Walther.

Sorry for taking this a little off course, but the question was asked...

The big savings is lead. I got a few hundred pounds at $0.70/pound:

Made ingots:

Cast bullets:

Powder coat them (no lube needed):

$0.018 per 180g lead bullet
$0.01 for powder (5 grains @ $120/8 pounds)
$0.03 per primer ($30/10000)

My time is free because I don't work overtime to buy load or shoot bullets, I do my casting, loading and shooting during my leisure time.

Judging by an S&W financial press release, S&W is done with Walther:

I was hoping it was the size of the Shield. I'm a little disappointed. Had it been the size of the Shield, I would have sold my M&P .22lr and bought one. As is, I'm not sold. I'll probably pick it up, though, just in case, when my LGS gets one.

According to info from Julie Golob, it is similar to the Shield with a slightly longer threaded barrel.

That's awesome. I load, but I buy my components.

rsrocket1, what kind of powder do your use? Polyester or epoxy? Does it foul the barrel at all? Very interesting, indeed.

1.Smith makes this one here in America.
2.It comes with two magazines.
3.It's going to be about the same price as the Ruger SR-22.

If it's as reliable as the Ruger is reputed to be, it looks like a winner to me.

The magazines appear to be different (different part number) and a review on YouTube had the mags side by side and they are slightly a different size.

There seems to be so many nice .22 lr pistols and rifles available more
than any time in my life, and I am 63 years old.

The big problem is there is no .22 lr ammo available where I live in Northwestern Oregon. The biggest store is Fred Meyer. The last time .22 lr was in stock they received only 3 boxes of .22 lr 2 weeks ago and was gone in minutes.

When I was a kid during the 1960's you could buy all the .22 lr ammo you wanted at the general store or hardware store if there was no sporting goods / gun store available. How times have changed.
