Problem Broken M&P 22 Fullsize
Have had my Smith and Wesson M&P 22 - Full-size since 8/2012. Have put 1000's of rounds thru it, especially when 22lr was cheap and plentiful. Put 300 rounds thru is today and when I was cleaning it today I notice a piece as broken off. Believe there has been wear between the slide and frame on the left side. Not sure if this wear would be warranty able or what to do. Two pictures below.

Welcome to the forum. Did you by chance dry fire with the slide off? Your best option is to contact S&W about a possible warranty repair. I have thousands of rounds through mine and no problem at all, not even a problem what you have.

I would DEFINITELY call S&W - They have good customer service and some report great (some complain about them too, but of course, right lol?) - and at the very least, deny till you die. Just continue to push push push for warranty service and deny you did a damned thing wrong. You just did everything perfectly normal and this cheap thang busted on its own!!!
As long as your polite but politely insistent, you can usually get them to at least check it out for you on their end.

Thousands of rounds through my and also no such problems. S&W may ask what ammo you use. Hyper velocity is a no no, or as was asked, did you fire with the slide off. Let us know what they do for you.

Maybe you'll get lucky and they'll exchange it for a compact model. You can only hope.

I am sure that is probably not going to happen, but you never know.

Never used any hyper velocity rounds, usually just CCI(when you can find it), remington bulk, and federal bulk.

Let me rephrase the question. Did you drop the hammer when the slide was off?

No have never dropped the hammer with the slide off, not sure what the purpose would be to dry fire without a slide? Plus usually when the slide if off its being cleaned, so no mags/ammo in area. M&P 22 has a magazine Disconnect, so trigger is disabled when no mag inserted.
Guess I should add I have alot of wear on the left side of the slide also, believe it may have been rubbing int he spot that broke. Left side of the has been rubbing, its all shinny, not black anymore. Right side is still black.
Just got an RMA from S&W requesting I send it in. The M&P 22 was my first gun I ever bought back in 2012, got into guns late in life. Hope it can be repaired.

People have dry fired their M&P 22 with the slide off. And had somewhat like the damage you have. But what you're saying about the slide wearing could possibly be why that part has broken on your pistol. I'm sure S&W will find and fix your issue. Keep is updated on what they find out.

Update on Broken M&P 22 Full-Size
Got my M&P 22 fullsize back today, took just over a month to have S&W fix it.
All I know is based on the paperwork they sent back, says the replaced the "Side Plate".
Communication with S&W seems to be one way, I had to keep asking for info. I emailed after they had it for 2 weeks, just asking for estimate on time for a cost estimate etc... only to find out they already fix it, for free. Which is nice but some emails letting me know the status would be nice. Gun was fixed and ready to ship back 2 weeks ago but they kept delaying shipping.
Emailed S&W 9/1
Shipped to S&W 9/23
Received back from s&W 10/24
All in all, I am happy. This was the first gun I ever bought, glad it is fixed and back home.
