Default Sear Deactivation Lever

Hi,

While cleaning my M&P Shield 40, I tried to disassemble using the yellow deactivation, lever. I got it to rotate down, but the slide would not detach from the frame. I did finally detach it by using the "pulling the trigger" method.
After cleaning, I tried to reset the lever, by pushing a mag up into the pistol....wouldn't move. Tried(with gusto) a couple times with no luck.
Finally, reset it by finding (on this forum!) that I could reset the lever by pulling slide back and holding trigger...seems to work fine but have not fired yet.

Question...have I risked any damage?
Thanks!

Hmmm, that is strange. I have not experienced that with any of my 3 m&ps. It should move pretty freely using your finger. When the slide is off, does it move? And if it does, does it lower and raise the front of the sear?

As a side note, as long as you are sure the gun is empty, it is fine to disassemble via the trigger pull method. One thing to keep an eye on is the disassembly lever sometimes wants to flip back up, so make sure it stays down when you want it to be down.

What you're describing is a broken gun. Holding the trigger back while operating the slide should have no affect on the sear deactivation lever.

Moving the lever down should allow the slide to come off once the take down lever is moved.

Inserting a magazine will reset the sear deactivation lever every time unless it's jammed.

Both of those problems indicate a broken gun. It's possible that the pin holding the lever in place is missing. That has happened before. Is this a new gun?

Just to be sure, we are talking about part #30, right: M&P Parts Identification

Rastoff,
I was indeed talking about part #30. You got me a bit spooked, so I dis- and re-assembled my Shield 40 again. This time, the yellow deactivation lever worked without a flaw. I removed the slide a few times just to make sure it was consistent. I'm wondering if I moved the lever "too far down" the first time last night which might have got it stuck. Anyway, everything seems to be working as it should.

Thanks everybody for your help!

Just got a Shield last week for wife. I find it's easier to lock slide back, push disassembly lever down, close slide, pull trigger (as in Glock) and the barrel/slide practically shoots off the frame. I don't even fiddle with the sear lever gizmo. But YMMV, as they say.
