17 days...
So last thursday I went to my local gun store wanting to buy a shotgun and found a really nice m&p 9mm. They took it in on consignment. He could not sell it because they have to hold it for 21 days. So the fourth I will be able to go fill out my DROS and what ten days to pick it up... but they are closed the day I am able to pick it up and the day after. So I have 17 days left. Ive already paid all the fees and everything. So now I wait... I dunno if I can make it.

DROS? 10Day wait? You must be in CA! Welcome from OC.
What's the 21 day hold for?
Meanwhile, check out some Youtube vids, shop for mags, buy some ammo (lot's!).

Hate it for you. My purchase 2 weeks ago timeline. Arrive at gun shop 10:00 am. Purchase gun and leave gun shop 10:20. Arrive at range 10:40. Run out of ammo at 1:00. It's nice to live in the south.

Well get 'em while you can. The legislature is trying to ban online ammo sales, so your "news" may become reality soon.

And I thought IL was bad with its 72 hour cooling off period for handguns (long guns are 24 hours).

Here in Florida if you have a concealed permit, you can take the gun home right away. But the hold the OP talks about is totally different, & only covers guns that were traded in. Just like anything sold to a pawn shop, there is a 15 day hold so the police have time to make sure the item isn't stolen. Of course since a new gun is new, it doesn't have such a hold. We would still show the gun, & the customer could pay for it, but he couldn't take it home right away. Of course if the gun was traded in 12 days before, the hold was only 3 days. But this proved to be unpopular, with CWP holders wanting their gun NOW, so they now don't display the gun until the 15 day wait has passed. Funny exception to the rule was if the gun was traded in at a gun show, there was no hold on it. GARY

Interesting. Here in Cali, you can buy a used gun from an individual as a Private Party Transaction (PPT). Must be done face to face and transfered at an FFL. Under current law, the buyer is now subject to the 10 day wait (with limited exceptions).
As Nija says above, the 10 day wait was recently struck down as unconstitutional by a Federal Judge. This only applies to certain groups but would now include owners of already registered firearms. The only delay would be to complete the background check which by it's very name, is instant.

A firearm is not "registered" when you purchase it...the 4473 form stays a the LGS where you bought it from. The only reason a firearm would be traced back to the person who legally purchased it is if it was involved in some type of crime...then they would trace the gun from its origin to who it was sold too...correct me if I'm wrong...

In California when you fill out the DROS for a handgun it is then registered with the CA DOJ. I think beginning in 2015 all fire arms will be registered
With DOJ not just hand guns.
In other news I bought 200 rounds of FMJ 9mm and 50 rounds of JHP 9mm.

Hi Ninja. Guess what? No sales tax on guns this weekend in Louisiana. Takes about 10 minutes to buy a gun.

Wow, your gun must be really quiet if your GF is a "mute accurate shot than I"
Congrats on the gun. I am so glad we left CA! I don't think I could move back, even though all my family is there. 99% of my guns hold more than 10 rounds. It would suck if Missouri's gun laws were like CA's.

I didn't follow all the thread but , if the rule is it needs to be in house 21 days, and there is a 10 day waiting period, and neither of these can be bamboozled,
why could you not make the purchase or at least * START * the transaction / do whatever is necessary to get started, on the 11th day, so 10 days later you have both fulfilled the waiting period and the 21 day consignment in house period?

Against the rules. They need to hold the firearm for 21 days before they can sell it.
Sorry for typos I'm using my phone.
