Default Little spring and block in sear housing fell out

I have an M&P full size pistol that I was installing an Apex sear. When I pulled the sear housing there was a little block about half the size of the sear on the left side of the housing. It fell out as well as the spring. What does this thing do? I noticed in several youtube videos and images online that do not have this piece in it. My gun has the thumb safety that I removed and I suspect this is part of it correct?

Thanks

that's the sear deactivation lever, you should have a pin too that holds it in place.

Nope, not the sear deactivation lever. It's the thumb safety detent.

Sear disconnect lever is part #30 here: M&P Parts Identification

The thumb safety detent looks like this:

Notice the two blocks on the right. The far right one has the detent and the middle one doesn't.

If you want your thumb safety to work, you'll need to put the detent and spring back in.

Sorry, I forgot to answer this.

It is the thing that holds the thumb safety on or off. Without it, the thumb safety won't stay in place.

Ok I figured that and I pulled the safety out anyway so I'll just leave it out. Thanks

Yep, if you're going to leave the thumb safety off, there's no need for that block or spring. The thumb safety is superfluous on an M&P anyway. Enjoy!
