Hello guys, First, let state plainly that I am NOT attempting to either bash, or promote the S&W M&P Series pistols. I am just looking to see if anyone is keeping up with the M&P Series' progress in the law enforcement marketplace, as in; 1) who has adopted then for duty use, 2) who authorizes them for use, & 3) who has dropped them from use due to mechanical problems. Throughout the years, I've attempted to to compile such lists pertaining to the most prevelant duty weapons issued within the law enforcement community. I tried to keep the lists current, updating them whenever there was something of note to add. My list compiling went smoothly for quite a few years, getting substantially busy in the late 1970's & 1980's when a great many agencies were upgrading from revolvers to auto pistols. By the late 1980's, we though it was all over, as most agencies were now armed with either 9mm or .45 ACP's, then came the .40 S&W !! Here we go again. Well, I did my best to keep the lists current & updated, and for the most part I was successful. Then came 09/11, with it's influx of Federal funding & impetus on preparedness, which in turn accounted for more weapon & caliber changes & upgrades. By the time I retired from my Dept in 2012 I had all but given up on trying to keep my lists current. Way too many many agencies, were purchasing new weapons, & new calibers, only to be adopted, then shortly afterward found to be unreliable, or unsuitable for their intended purposes. Sooooo, they then either sold or swapped off those weapons, & tried another weapon brand or caliber. Needless to say, with all that back & forth activity, I figured it was time to call it quit's for my list keeping. One of my parting thoughts was that although I was shelving the list for the moment, the L/E community had kind of self-limited itself to either a Glock, H&K, SIG, or S&W semi-automatic pistol, in either 9mm, .357 SIG, .40 S&W, or .45 ACP for duty use. Now the issue would become choosing between those 4 mfgr's & 4 noted calibers. Well, as we have seen, it's just not that easy !! Soooo, after I apologize for the over-long post, I return to my original question of; "Has anyone been keeping up with L/E adoptions of the S&W M&P Series" ? If so, I'd love to hear from them so that I may update my list, & hopefully be able to keep it current. THANK YOU
Best, dpast32
