Default Question about Act-Mag Magazines

Hello fellow S&W MP owners and enthusiast. I just purchased a new M&P 9 full size and was looking to purchase additional magazines. I found a dealer that is offering Original Equipment grade magazines by Act-Mag. I have used Act-Mag in other firearms with great success and was looking for opinions or guidance on their use in the M&P 9. Any and all shared information will be welcomed.
Thanks in advance for your comments.

Never heard of them. I have used ACT mags in 1911s, but I suspect they are a different manufacturer.

In all double stack guns it seems factory mags are better. I've used some after market mags with mixed success, but not in an M&P. Unless they are just super inexpensive, stick with factory mags.

why go with a unknown brand when you can get factory mags for around $25-$26 each?

The only mags that I trust besides factory are mccgarr ones. Because for most firearms they are factory mags

I'd only trust factory mags. Not saying some of the other brands aren't any good but so far I've had good luck with S&W mags. Since I use my pistols for SD I just wouldn't trust any other brands. Always test new equipment before relying on them. For range practice almost anything can be used if you don't mind the possibility of wasting valuable range time due to faulty mags.

here's an option for both good pricing as well as good service; I've used them once for a fs mag (for my 9c) and got it quickly. Seems others on this site have used him as well for mags and have been satisfied

Quantico Tactical has a 3 pack of factory full sized 9 mags for $78. That comes to $26 each. I have bought from them before and they are a good company to deal with. I have never had any issues with them.

If I'm not mistaken, act-mag manufacturs S&W magazines, so does mec-gar? They're made by several sources depending on the firearms.

AFAIK, the only aftermarket mags for the M&P are from Promag. Everything else is labeled S&W.

Quantico has good deals on 3-packs.

I've bought a bunch o' mags from Greg Cote for my Beretta, Sig and 1911s. That is a A+++ vendor!

Here is the link:
ACT-MAG S&W M&P9 MAGAZINE : Greg Cote, LLC

They are offering 15 round and 17 round.

Here is a comparison link of Act-Mag and S&W......a very good MUST read:

For $5 each difference I can't see it. Maybe when S&W mags were hard to get, but not now. I have over 75K rounds through my competition pistol and I've never had a magazine problem, I don't think I'll tempt fate at this point.

This post is very interesting as I have looked at the ACT-MAG site as well as Precision Sales International, and NEITHER lists an ACT-MAG for the M&P pistol. In fact, neither lists ANY magazine by that maker for ANY S&W, regardless of model.

Greg Cote, LLC does list an ACT-MAG for the M&P. Go figure. His firm shows a 15 round compliant, a 17 round standard, but no 10 round compliant.

Pro Mag lists magazines for the M&P, however, the price on its web site is no cheaper than the price of original magazines from the usual sources.

I recommend you stay with factory magazines. Malfunctions are not acceptable in a match or "in real life," and if you have range malfunctions, you will soon question whether it is the pistol or the magazine. Best to have complete confidence in your pistol.

There are numerous threads on factory mags, suggesting many places to get them, for those prices, some already mentioned above.

A easy search here will get you all the info you need.

The Act mags must be a relatively new product. The Promags I have are junk but they were the only 10 round mags around when I got my FS. As others have said, spend a few dollars more and get factory mags.

Order update:
I ordered several factory S&W magazines and just 1 Act-Mag to inspect, compare and evaluate. As others have observed, there is only a $5 difference and it will be interesting to see the differences. Stand by for those observations!

I received my new factory magazines and one ACT-MAG magazine for comparison and they appear to be identical EXCEPT the witness holes are in the rear of the magazine instead of the side. The front of the factory magazine has a very prominent 9MM where the ACT-MAG is not nearly visible and there is no Smith & Wesson logo on the magazine. The base plates are identical except the ACT-MAG does not have any markings where as the factory magazine is stamped. All in all, it appears to be a very well made magazine and appears to be just as functional as the factory magazines. Is it worth the $5.00 cheaper difference, you may have to be the judge but it is a solid magazine alternate solution to a factory magazine. IMHO

I would like to see some pictures please. A couple with factory and ACT side by side would be nice.

This Company is now making most of the Factory Smith and Wesson Mags so I've been told. I'm going to give them a try in my PC 1911
