New Shield Owner Here
Just picked up my new 9mm Shield this weekend. I bought the no thumb safety version as I have trained only without thumb safeties on my guns and didn't want to complicate things.
Here are a few photos:
I also have a question. I noticed on the inside of the slide some dimples and was wondering if this is normal and what they would be for. Here is a photo that hopefully shows it:

The dimples are on both my Shield and 9c. No idea why they are there but I'm assuming it's normal.

Gotcha beat. My Shield9 has 5 dimples. My Shield40 has 6.
Both function flawlessly so I'm not worried about it.

You guys have got me wondering im going to take a closer look later today . I imagine it has to do with the milling of the slide , what has me wondering though is why do some have more then others . Unless it's for weight reduction ?

The dimples indicate the revision the firearm was made to. As these gun have been updated with changes to the sear block, barrel, trigger to name a few, smith and wesson uses the dimples (how many and where placed) to indicate which revision the gun was made to.

I've seen this question come up more than a few times and the answer has always been that the dimples indicate which CNC machine was used to mill the slide. Don't know if it's true or not...

I have a new NTS shield in 9MM that was purchased about 6 weeks ago. Just checked for dimples in the slide. No dimples but mine has 3 vertical lines about 1/4" long for each one. Any ideas? LOL

You'd think build dates would determine what updates have been done that could be traced back through the serial number .

Ok Curiosity got me and I just checked mine and I have 3 dimples stacked in a pattern almost like a half moon in shape and a notch above it about a 1/4 of inch long .
Oh and my build date was early September 2014
Hmmm lol

I just got mine today, can't wait to shoot it.
Just wondering what's the break in period for this gun?

I have had mine for maybe 2 years now and have hundreds of rounds through it and the spring and slide are still very firm compared to a Sig I sot today. Mine shoots like it was made to do. The only time I ever had a hang up was weak ammo as it does not care for that. Put some powder in the bullets and it will work every time you pull the trigger.

Took mine or the range this past weekend and put my first 100 rounds through it. After dry firing today I noticed the slide moves more freely and returns fully to battery each time I cycle it whole dry firing. So it seems it is broke in now as when dry firing previously before shooting it, it would hang up when cycling by hand.

I've noticed that all my M&P's have those markings on the slide .
Also if you feel you still need a grip that fills your hand more after using Talons I've read that some have put talons or Similiar on and then there slip on grips over it and that eliminates the slipping . For me the Talons are perfect , I've never been a fan of slip on grips but love my Talons they feel more natural to me and not so universal like slip ons with no slippage .
