Apex Trigger for Shield 40 ?????
Did a little searching and did not find much so posting question here.
Got my Shield 40 and would like a better trigger. In looking at Apex - they offer two kits... one for the Carry and one that includes the Trigger - anywhere form $80 - $135.
Any experience in these??
APEX Shield Duty/Carry Action Enhancement Trigger and Kit
I have read about possible need to adj the Trigger Bar Loop??? doable but ????
So, again, looking for someone with good experience with either package. get one or Both??
Does it really improve it for the $$$
BTW - I have a Glock 27 since about 97 and loved it, wanted to try the Shield ever since it came out because of the single stack and wanted it for CCW - At first the price was way up there here in CA and it had that damn ext safety, Then S&W came out with the Shield without the ext safety and I did the SSE for CA.. Took it to the range and ran 100 rounds of re-loads and that little shield ate every single one with NO issues... guess the Glock will sit in the safe now..

The kit with the trigger is supposed to remove most of the pre-travel in the trigger, which for a CCW I was a concerned about. I installed the kit without the trigger in both my Shield and 9c and am super happy with the results. You still have the factory pre-travel in the trigger, but the grittiness is totally gone, smooth as butter. Trigger pull is between 5-5.5 pounds and has a crisp reset. Worth every dollar.
Regarding installation, a buddy of mine is a gunsmith so can't speak to the installation process. The rear sight has to be removed, so if you're thinking about different sights now would be the time. I added HiViz sights and they were a great help to my old man eyes.

Why would the rear sight need to be removed in order to install the trigger?

Well... If he were replacing JUST the trigger, he wouldn't, but he's looking at the Full Kit, not just the trigger.

Exactly. It's not the actual trigger mechanism, but the kit requires replacing a spring and some part (that I don't know the name of) which requires removing the rear sight to access it.

The part you're thinking of is the "striker block".

I installed the Apex trigger and trigger kit in my 9mm shield and love it.
Go to Apex website and watch the video.

I don't plan on changing out a perfectly good and functioning trigger. I was just curious.

This is my Shield 40 and I do prefer the 3/8 inch of pre-travel which pulls at 1.0 pounds. The sear pull is 3.5 pounds, so to me it acts like a 2 stage rifle trigger pull, with a long 1 pound pre-travel pull and a short 3.5 pound sear pull to break, with an equally short reset. Just the way I wanted it, but it is not for all, especially those new to shooting or those that don't practice often. A SD gun doesn't have to have a heavy pull, but a pull that works good for the user. It is my every day carry SD gun and no one else uses it.

I would put APEX parts in every M&P that I bought. We are talking customized accessories versus mass produced. No brainer! The quality is very evident if you ever use APEX.

I just picked up shield 9mm without a safety. My trigger pull scale indicates an average of about 6.5#. Still worth doing the apex kit in the non-safety shields?

Depends on what you are used to. If your example feels good to you, I'd leave it alone versus spending money on parts to replace in search of an issue that does not exist for you. If you are having specific issues the parts will address, then it's up to you.
