Default I think I got a good deal. M&P 40

I have been checking gun auctions and see that the M&P 40 prices are very low. There are so many police trade-ins that the value is very low and the market is flooded. So I had to make a move.

I bid $275 for a gun, I did not think I would win. I did at $260, for a M&P 40.....wow. That's less than I paid for my .380 BG.

So it should be to my FLL tomorrow. I'll report back when I get it to the range. I really suggest people check it out, you can get them from $250-$350. Mine did not have extra mags or straps. No big deal since I might just get a 9mm barrel and call it a day.

I only fired the .40 a few rounds in my life. I have to see if I enjoy it. If not I will get a 9mm barrel and use that as a truck gun or something to modify with Apex stuff to see how it feels.

I could always use it as trade bait for something else. I really want a S&W .357 revolver of some kind, with a 4" barrel.

It has been proven that in the real world the 9mm has definite advantages over the other calibers common in law enforcement. Everybody is switching to the 9mm including the FBI. No wonder I cannot find my favorite Federal HST ammo in 9mm, just like the Hornady TAP 75 gain in 5.56mm, can't find it.

Since it's not a carry gun for me and I like to kind of collect them I just might get a 9mm & a .357 SIG barrel to mess around with. Storm Lake does make a direct conversion barrel in 9mm but the standard 9mm fits and works too from what I understand.

I think you did get a good deal; its an LEO trade in?
From what I've heard, most have not been shot thousands of rounds or abused.
Mags seem to be available again also. What are the straps you didn't get?

It might be a LEO trade in, probably is. There are so many now with everybody going to 9mm.

I don't know what is what yet. I'm going to pick it up Monday. I'll also pick up a box of ammo. I wasn't too keen on a .40 but for that price I could not pass it up since I can get the 9mm & .357 barrels for it. If the .40 is not to liking I'll just get a 9mm barrel for it. That's why not getting more mags was not a deal breaker.

I normally use the mid size on my 45 and the large on my 9. So I have a large from my 45 to put on it.

My FFL got it today and said it was in very good condition and was not shot a lot but carried a bit. So that makes me think it was probably a LEO gun. I don't even know what year it is. I will probably modify it a bit to use as an experimental gun to see what works for me and truly improves the gun. I can apply that to my 9 and some to my Shield 9 and 45.

Next is a S&W .357 with a 4" barrel. I'm not sure what model, it really depends on cost. I just cannot spend $700+ on a revolver I'll shoot once in a while.

Default S&W 40

Hello all
I won the same type gun on G.B. and picked up today.
three mags night sights box papers one extra backstrap.
Been carried for sure but looks good inside.
326.00$ out the door.
Seems like a deal hope it runs.
My brother has same and has the 357 sig barrel and the 9mm setup also and it's been excellent.
His has the apex trigger and heine sights and it's sweet.
Regards
Mike

One thing I noticed about .40 S&W was that back when everything else was in short supply or non-existent there was still plenty of .40 S&W on the store shelves in my area. That is what prompted me to get my M&P in .40 S&W.

If I shoot it and I like it I will keep it as is. Maybe get a .357 barrel. I wouldn't like either caliber with a shorter barrel handgun, that I know.

What I find very interesting is the ballistics of the .40. The barrel length kind of maxes out at 5". Anything more and you get very little increase in velocity. Even less increase than the averaged out .45 ACP according to ballistics by the inch. Which I found very interesting.

If I do get a .357SIG barrel it wouldn't be permanent. I had a .300 Blackout and was always worried about using the wrong ammo in a gun, either way. So I probably would buy another cheap .40 and make it into a .357 permanently.

Again if the .40 is fun I will also build an AR in .40. I have a 9mm and I really like it. A 5" barreled .40 AR would be fun. I'm waiting for parts to become available and will build an AR in .308 and one in a pistol caliber like .40 or 10mm, maybe .45ACP or even .357SIG. Right now there are lowers available more than uppers & barrels.

Hopefully I'll get to the range by Wednesday and report back.

Didn't shoot it yet, tomorrow. It's a little beat up but the barrel is good and it seems fine.

I think it's an older model. Does anybody know how to tell what year it is from the serial number? I don't have the box or the fired brass they come with.
