Default Carrying an M&P 9

I have a Shield for my daily carry but at some point in the next couple of months, she's going in for some work (Apex trigger install, new sights). While she's at the gunsmith, my other option for carry is my M&P 9.

I need to get a concealed carry holster for it and was wondering what rig others are using. Since it will only be used occasionally after my Shield is done, I'd like to avoid spending much more than about $50 if I can.

Anyone have suggestions/recommendations?

Gavin at firearmholster.com

I also carry my Shield 99% of the time, but I've been carrying my M&P 9 full size more lately with one of his hybrids. $49.00 with custom colored stitching, etc.

I've got 3 of his for my Shields, and 1 for the full size. Top notch!

I never thought I could carry the full size, but I was wrong....it's a tad heavier, so I just tighten the belt another notch, but it's fine with regards to concealment.

First of all, any holster that's worth using for even one day, will be a quality holster. Otherwise, just stick it in your waistband. That said, there are some good holsters for around your price range.

This is what I carry my 45 in:

Yes, it's OWB and no, I don't have any trouble concealing it. Yes, it's about $100 and that's more than you want to spend. However, it will last you for the rest of your life and will increase the value of your gun should you want to sell it. Very few $50 holsters will add value to the gun in a sale.

If you're going to need the full size gun now, you'll need it sometime in the future. Why not get the right holster the first time?

Failing that, consider an Aker: http://akerleather.com/ They usually have something in stock.

Failing that, consider a Safariland 5198: Law Enforcement Products | The SAFARILAND Group This is the least expensive holster that I would recommend to anyone. It falls in your range, but I'd still look to the others first.

In the end, it's your money and your life. Do what you want. These are just some ideas from me.

I frequently carry my full size, that will change as it gets warmer and I move to the Shield I just bought.

I use a Galco Avenger and dress appropriately with loose shirts or jackets. No one has ever guessed I have it on. Before I moved to the M&Ps I carried a 5" 1911 more than any other pistol.

The biggest challenge is dressing around the carry, at least for me.

Thanks, everyone! Based on feedback here (and in another forum), reviews, and my familiarity with the style, I'm going to get an Alien Gear. They also run a special where you get a discount if you buy two and a friend of mine needs one for his new Sig (tried to talk him into M&P, but no luck). Thanks again!

That is the holster that I use and I can easily say that i am more than happy with it. I even broke the kydex part once before and contacted the guy about repair and asked how much. He told me just to ship it to him and he will repair it free of charge.

Maybe so, but that's not what he was saying after he shot my M&P last weekend.

Not me, I'll take a good striker fired pistol any day. Besides, I'm a lefty and most Sig's don't work for me.
