Default High Capacity Mags?

Just ordered a new 5" 40 cal ported performance center pistol. I've heard there is a high capacity 25 round magazine available? Can someone please tell me who makes these?

Taylor Freelance makes a +8 extension for the M&P. I've used their smaller 140mm extension on both 9 & 40 M&Ps' with the stock spring but it won't lock the slide back every time. The +8 would need a longer spring for sure.

Here you go 40 bucks they will fit the 5" & 4.25" M&P and probably the compact too, but as I said they have had mixed reviews.

You'll have to tell us how it run's, most of the ones I have seen have been used more as a novelty. When someone does try and use one in a steel challenge or pin shoot were unlimited rounds are allowed they end up fighting a FTF or other mag related stoppage which in those games is the kiss of death. Most stick with quality or stock mags, with the idea its better to put five quality rounds down range. They can be a bit dysfunctional if you have a requirement to draw from holster.

Stoke it up and let us know how it runs for you.

good luck

Save your money with the promag. I've had them for just about every gun and only a small portion worked. Most of the time they had feeding issues and half the time they had fitting issues. The worst wouldn't even fit into the magwell. Now days if I get one with a purchase I use them for target practice. $32 for Promag is about $40 too much

ProMag story:
Purchased a 40-->9 conversion barrel for my FS 40. Only 9 MM mags I could find were the Promag.
Fit was tight enough in the .40 that the mags would not eject, you had to physically remove them by pulling them out. Occasional failure to feed, but OK for target shooting and plinking, would not use in any competition.
Ran across a great deal on a used FS 9mm, the ProMags fit perfectly, not tight, ejected just fine when pressing the mag release button. Very few feeding problems compared to the .40 frame.
As a note the .40 had a test date of June 2012, the 9mm had a test date of may 2009. The frames are supposed to be identical.
I will not buy ProMags, unless there is no other option.

YMMV

The reason I don't like them for even range is because of what you said. ..."ok for target shooting and plinking". If it's giving me problems that means I have to constantly diagnose if it's mag, gun or ammo related. I don't want to keep doing that at the range, I just want to shoot. A quality mag will eliminate that

You are not going to find any magazine for the M&P that is under 170mm that holds 25 rounds of .40. Because the money goes into making reliable equipment for the gun games, the max allowable length is 171.25mm and there is no carbine using the same mags ala Beretta or Kriss...you're wasting your time and money. Good luck!

I think this discussion is mixed up set of mis information.

1. USPSA has standard maximum limits of magazine length for The Open and Limited Divisions, not # of rounds. The maximum Length for Limited is 140 mm and Open is 170 mm (you can use smaller mags. In 9mm (which is what I shoot) that equates to 22 rounds (plus 1 in the chamber) with stock tube, follower, and a Taylor Freelance spring and Base Pad. Most Limited and Open shooters also have a +0 setup which is a stock mag tube, follower, and spring, with a +0 baseplate so that the mag can be used with a magwell on a M&P (just about everyone does this). Additionally, it's possible to use a 170mm mag which is a stock tube, follower, Taylor Freelance (Or Taran Tactical, or a number of other manufacturers) and a longer spring (again, multiple manufacturers). Most competitors figure out the bundle that works for them. As far as reliability, none of us would use anything that's less than 100% functional, it may not be life or death, but those little points are expensive as hell once you figure out plane fare, car rental, hotel, and all those other things that add into the little game we play. Normally I carry 5 17 round mags to a match, along with 5 22 round and 2 28 round mags. I've tried a Pro-Mag brand, seemed really cheap and tinny after about the 5th time I dropped it on a hard rock surface. It's now taken up residence in by barrel of competition test "experiments". Go to Taran Tactical, Taylor Freelance, or Speed Shooter specialties and look at all the stuff up for sale, It's like being a kid in a candy store. Just be carefull, all the competition only stuff is really habit forming.

And if your wife gets mad at you, just remember, I didn't show you any of this stuff.
