I have a guy wanting to trade me a S&W M&P40c. What makes it odd is it says headhunters oef 2012-2013 on the left slide and Protect defend and serve on the top of the slide... it looks professionally done.. I guess my question would be is this a factory gun or did someone add stickers?

Is there any way you can post some pics? I'm sure S&W didn't put that on the pistol, but it doesn't mean it isn't a S&W.

OEF on a gun usually refers to Operation Enduring Freedom. The original owner likely served in Afghanistan in 2012-2013. Headhunters was probably the nick name of his unit.

Units often get guns engraved to commemorate their service together.

Ask the owner. It definitely did not come from the S&W factory that way.

It's not super expensive to get the slide refinished if you don't like it.
