Thumbs down Question on Magazine Capacity- .40 Shield

I feel rather foolish asking this question. The .40 Shield has 7 and 6 round capacity. I have not asked it when on the range or when I picked the pistol up. Can or should an extra round be chambered before inserting the magazines. I did this with 1911's.

Its possible you could damage the extractor if you slam the slide forward on a round already in the chamber.

I just start with a full mag, insert and rack a round in, then top off the mag with one round.

Allowing the slide to slam home on a round dropped in the chamber sounds like it could increase the risk of a negligent discharge.
