Default Shield and Apex Sear

I recently bought a 9mm Shield and put 175 rounds through it in stock condition. I was not impressed. As a matter of fact, I was very disappointed in the trigger and was considering selling it.

Luckily, I decided to try the Apex sear before parting ways. Wow. What a difference! With no other changes but the sear, the gun is like a totally different gun. So much better!

Absolutely the best $42 I've ever spent on a gun.

I'm guessing you've never tried an M&P FS, or Compact? Most everyone who's owned several say the Shield's factory trigger is way better than the FS or C.

The Shield's the only M&P I've bought because I hated the other M&Ps' triggers. I actually almost didn't even consider renting and trying the Shield in '12 when it came out because I thought its trigger would be as bad as the others. I'm glad I did rent it. It's been my EDC for almost three years now.

I've shot a half dozen or so. They were all very unsatisfactory. I had read the Shield was ~much~ better and I think that might have been the source of my dissatisfaction. It didn't meet my expectations.

Triggers being "good" or "bad" is all relative. I've never shot any M&P trigger (or any striker fired pistol for that matter; some of the Walthers come close) that was even in the same ballpark as a third gen S&W, SIG Classic or decent 1911.

I'm happy to say that with the Apex sear, the Shield is quite usable and, with its size, makes for a great carry gun.

It's always confused me why S&W doesn't concentrate more on a better trigger. From experienced shooters to novices, everyone checks out just a few details on a new gun they've just picked up, details that a stat sheet cant tell them. At the top is how it feels in your hand. Past that, how the trigger feels is near the top of the list.

Glad to hear you made your Shield work for you!

What is the trigger weight with just the Apex sear? I just bought a new Shield 9mm and I'm reading 7-7 1/4 lbs of trigger pull.

Thanks.
Mike

Unfortunately, I don't have any way of measuring it. The smooth pull and clean break are more important than reduction in weight for me.

I have put the Apex sear in two of my 3 M&Ps. For the FS9 and Shield 9 it was what made them the way I want my trigger to be. My 40c didn't need it and was good right out of the box.
