Default Shield slide release button stuck

After installing my new Trijicon sights, I noticed that the slide release button got very tough to press to release the slide. How can I fix this? I know I was very careful when using the vice so I do not think I bent it by any chance fyi. I'm hoping it is a quick fix.

Are you talking about the slide lock or the magazine release? I've never put an entire gun in a vise, I always break down the slide and put that in the vise.

If you are referring to the slide release, chances are the guide rod (the thing that contains the recoil spring) is not fully seated. Take the slide off the frame, fit the rear of the guide rod into the half-moon recess on the bottom of the barrel and try again.

Short, small guns have heavy recoil springs to begin with, which makes slide manipulation harder. Once the pistol is reassembled, a tug on the rear of the slide (with magazine removed) will result in a small click, then slide will return to battery (fully forward).

If you're talking about the magazine release, well, that has nothing to do with your sight installation...unless you locked the entire pistol in a vise then beat on the sights with a punch - in which case you warped the frame and that will not be a "quick fix"...

Thanks for th responses. I am indeed referring to the slide release. I also did take it apart when it was put into th vice. I will try what you said as it sounds like a quick fix. Thanks again!

How are you using the slide stop to release the magazine? It sounds like for some reason you put the frame in the vice and now your mag release isn't working properly. You clarified that it was your slide release... but it would make no sense that you would use that to eject the magazine.

If it is indeed the mag release, you probably squeezed it in the vice and damaged it. If it is the slide stop that wont budge, try pulling slide back a bit passed where it locks open, then pressing down on slide stop. They are really tight on the shields.

My magazine release if fine. The button the brings the slide from back to front when pulled back, randomly got tough to pull down to bring the slide forward.

Are you trying to release the slide with an empty magazine inserted? It won't work that way. Remove the magazine and slingshot the slide. Don't baby it, let the slide go. BTW, your post are hard to read and understand.

The part in question is known as a slide lock. Although it will release the slide when thumbed down, it was never engineered to be a slide release like you have on a 1911. The product handbook tells the shooter to pull the slide to the rear to release it.

My slide release has never been one that I could use in a reload scenario, like in a Kahr. I guess due to the low profile. I can't get enough thumb on the button to release the slide under pressure. I do find that if I rack just slightly to release some tension on the slide, that I can activate the release button with my right thumb. So I rack and release when shooting/reloading, and I use the method described above in cleaning etc.

That works for me on the slide,,, but none of that has to do with mag release. Maybe I misread the post though.

Edit: aha! Post 8 explains better than I did. . Slide lock vs slide "release". Excellent distinction!!!
