I have not bought myself a new pistol in over 15 years and have been looking at the M&P line. I think I'm going to buy a Shield in 9mm but have a friend that might be getting a 40 so I think I'm going to wait until I try it. I found a M&P 22 Compact for a good price ($299). I found someone local with an FFL to ship it to. I went to complete the order the other night and realized the 22 Compact has a threaded barrel. Threaded barrels are Illegal in New York thanks to our idiot governor and his "Safe Act".
Does anyone know if Smith and Wesson will be offering the 22 Compact with a non threaded barrel anytime in the near future?
Man that sucks... I moved from Jersey to FL to begin April of last year, and man oh man, it's awesome down here. Got me a Shield AND a M&P 22 Compact last summer, its so sweet. Plus I got to knock out the pin in my 7 10rd M&P 15-22 rifle magazines, making them 25-rd mags , cause it's all good in the hood down here.
As far as the non-threaded, perhaps you could get a friendly gunsmith to weld on the thread-protector or something like that for a reasonable price?
Sorry for your political loss of Constitutional rights, I have a Compact and it is the most user friendly pistol I have encountered in some time. If you are able to "comply" you will not be disappointed with the M&P Compact.
