New shield 9 mm owner! Quick question
Took my new 9 mm shield to the range yesterday. I love the gun! Does anybody else find the underside of the trigger guard abrasive and irritating to your middle finger when shooting?
Anybody who has the talon grips does it cover the are of the underside of the trigger guard where the texture is abrasive?
I sort of figure I am gripping to hard. I am constantly shooting to the left. I am going to try not using the pad of my finger on the trigger and adjust the way I hold. I have checked other threads on this.
Thanks for any info. The shield is a great pistol!

I find the same thing and have the Talon grip wrap on mine. For a casual range session it's not horrible but when I take another class in a few months I'll put a band-aid on the finger to help out. The Talon doesn't cover it.

I have actually developed a callus where my middle finger contacts the under side of the trigger guard. Mostly from a lot of dry fire. I didn't really notice how rough it is until you mentioned it. My XDm is comparatively smooth.
The Talon grips do not cover the bottom of the Shield trigger guard. You might be able to smooth it down with some light Dremel work.

Could be the way you are holding your grip. I'm right handed, Right thumb over the left thumb, both thumbs pointed forward, two handed grip & with me, no, doesnt bother me. I do have medium sized hands..
I did have the granulated Talon grips but after a couple range sessions I took it off as it was too course for my sensitive hands. I probably should have lightly sanded them down w/200 grit like the instructions mentioned if the user felt they were too rough but since this is my other carry weapon, I may try the rubber grips next.... Right now there is no grip, just stock the way it is. And I'm fine with that.

I've not noticed the texture problem with mine. But then I've only shot under 100 rounds at each range session with it at the few sessions I've had with it.
I have noticed I shoot to the left a bit. When dry firing, I can see the muzzle flinch. I've been using the 1st joint of my index finger instead of the pad.
You can search the web for "diagnostic target" and get the wheel that identifies grip and trigger finger issues.

Take your girlfriends/wife's fingernail file or some sandpaper and smooth it a bit. Both my Shield & 40c needed it a little bit.

What NCW Ray said. I haven't noticed this on my Shield until I put a LaserMax on it and then all it took was a little attention with fine sandpaper. To answer your other question - No, the Talon Grips do not go on the bottom of the trigger guard.

I sanded that part off, and made some relief cuts on the side.

Same here. There is really no reason to make that area rough. It does not improve grip in any way. I plan to take some emery paper to the surface, as much as I hate to modify the frame, but it needs to be done. S&W needs to change this cosmetic feature. This may be the first handgun that I can say I will probably never get rid of. I guess modifying it will not hurt the resale. My heirs can live with it. So far this is the only fault I find with the Shield.

I found both of my Shields very rough in that area. If you have a Dremel rotary tool using one of the light sanding collars will solve
you problem. Some here just use a fine sand paper. I found one of mine had a sharp edge where there guard meets the grip area too.
Afterwards you might want to use a black marking pencil in the sanded area.
Good luck and good shooting.
