If you don't have the access or the opportunity for range time, I would not bother with it. Having said that, there many after market companies that innovate and often improve upon features offered by the original manufacturers. I shoot often and I would give the MagGuts a workout, "IF" they made one for the Shield 40cal.

Same here. At least 200+ rounds through each mag (1 7 round mag and 1 8 round mag) with NO ISSUES AT ALL.
In fact as i stated in an earlier post when I disassembled my 7 round mag (factory) the spring was bent inside the mag well. Which just goes to show even factory mags can malfunction. I think having that one extra round is a hugh plus for shield owners.

I see several saying no issues with the mag guts but I'm curious about long term storage as well.
Leaving the mags fully loaded for sometime and then firing?
Any other posts about usage as well? Any issues?

Mine has worked like a champ. No problems at all. I trust it enough for EDC now.

I hate to beat a dead horse BUT. One of the first things 1911 folks do is buy new mags for their 1911. Most likely Wilson combat mags or Chip McCormack. Actually most of us tweak a new gun be it new sights, Apex trigger, guide rods, extended mag or slide lock etc etc. my point is we almost always do something to the gun that isn't factory and it seems to work just fine. Having said that, I know non factory sights does not effect the reliability of a gun, but we all at some point take a factory piece out and put a NON factory piece back in
In fact some after market parts are better than factory original, take APEX Triggers for example.

Another 150 rounds thru my magguts 9 round shield 9mm mag without a single malfunction. Have at least 700+ rounds through this one mag and at least 200 thru the 7/8 round mag NO ISSUES. I tried Speer ball and GDHP, Fed HST HP and Fed ball, WWB ball and some Corbon as well. Everything from 115 grain to 147 grain some +P some standard velocity. Tried PMC 9mm and even that **** Yavex 9mm made in Turkey.
Still functioned 100%

Picked up 2 more magguts for my shield 9mm. Put 120 rounds throug one and about 100 through the the other not a single malfunction NO issues at all. This will be my 4th magguts and I must say they have been utterly positively reliable.
Very happy with this product and my shield is laser accurate

I just picked up a kit and installed it in my 7 round mag. It took multiple attempts at install before everything clicked into place and it would accept the 8th round, but no more than 5 minutes of messing around with it was necessary. I've since put 150 rounds of cheap Walmart ammo through it without an issue. Very happy with the product. I hope to run some carry rounds through it this next weekend. If all runs well with my carry ammo, I will be picking up a couple more kits.

Has anyone noticed if its easier to insert a fully loaded magazine(specifically the 7 round mag) into the shield with the mag guts spring than the stock spring.I just load 6 because 7 makes it so tight I have to use a lot of force just to get it in.

Yes, it's easier. There's still some compression in the mag once that eighth round is loaded. I still have to press firmly to get it to seat, but not like before.

Just to throw in a comment here. I got a Shield just under 2 weeks ago. I put the Mag Guts system in my 7 round mag. It has worked flawlessly, though today at the range the slide didn't lock back two times. Now, I have really large hands, and I'm still working out the grip on this pistol. It's entirely likely my big ol' thumb was on the slide release lever and kept it from engaging. That happened constantly on my Sig P238 until I modified my grip on that one. So, at this point I'm not blaming the Mag Guts system.

In fact I just ordered two more so I can have a set for IDPA, one in the pistol (so either 8 or 9 +1), and two in a mag pouch. If all 3 are extended mags, that would give me 28 rounds on board.

For EDC, I'll probably carry the (now) 8 for the smaller grip length, plus the (now) 9 for backup. Maybe it's not worth it though, since obviously that's only two rounds more than the stock mags. I don't know. I'm used to having 10+1 and carrying a 17 for my SR9c, so it's a lot less rounds than I'm used to. Stats all say it makes no difference for my self-defense application anyway.

another 180 rounds through one of my magguts magazines (I have 4) One FTE on #170 BUT I was shooting right hand only AND was using YAVEX 9mm ammo from Turkey. Not sure if that was the cause, I have had about 150 trouble free rounds through that particular mag with no issues. So far over 950 + rounds through these mags (total rounds) with 2 FTE. will def shoot more prob tmrw

Good to hear that it's working as advertised (so far). Does it make the mags any easier to get that last round in?

I've been pondering giving them a try on a couple of my mags.
I have them on 2 of my mags for my glock g42, they have functioned perfectly through about a hundred reloads each (magazine reloads not individual rounds) anyway that was hundreds of rounds of ammo, as I said perfectly. As such I just ordered two for the mags that came with my Shield. I was 2 days late because they are closed until Dec. 21. I ordered 2 because shipping is free above $25.00 right now. I am sure they will be fine.

step 2, they arrived and were harder to install than the magguts I put on my glock 42. It was very difficult also to put in the last round in both mags. I took apart the mags and turned the larger of the springs (the bottom one) on both mags and they seemed fine now.

Step 3. I took them to the range today and fired 75 rounds through each mag. both performed perfectly. I fired full mags half full and two rounds in each and followed each increment with full mags. perfect in every instance. Also, I can fill the mags without even using a loader. I am a happy camper now

Yes and I do. I refuse to modify a carry gun that I've tested successfully the way I bought it, or to carry one that doesn't perform consistently.

I also don't want to ever have to shoot anybody and then have the additional issue to defend of why I made my trigger lighter, my capacity higher, my ammo "hopped up" or any other non-stock operating feature added.

I have several hundred rounds through two magguts setups. No problems, no issues. I just don't understand why someone would say they prefer their standard mag when a reliable 1+ is available but that's just me. Who doesn't want more ammo?

I'm glad to see some positive reviews on here about this product.
The one thing that keeps coming up is people saying they wouldn't modify a magazine for edc as factory "should be more reliable" or something along those lines.
Well I'm looking into the product not because of the extra round but because the company SPECIALIZES in springs. My FACTORY 7 round magazine spring was all bent up yesterday at the range. I pulled it out in an L shape. It bent where the little spring goes into the big spring.
I would assume that S&W uses affordable springs that usually work and keep costs down.
I would also assume that Magguts tries to build high quality springs to customers happy and further there business.
So after a long story, I am going to order a kit for my 7 round mag and see how it goes.

I have had Mag Guts in 3 of my mags for my 9mm Shield and 3 mags for my .380 bodyguard. I have 500 to 700 rounds in 2 of the mags for the 9mm and 200 to 300 for the .380. I have had no issues and have been carrying the 9mm and bodyguard going on 3 months now. Glad I tried them!

I really wanted to get some of these for a couple compact carry guns, but read a few long-term test reviews that reported failures to feed.

I carried a J-Frame for years, so it's not like I'm stressed about not having an extra round, but I'd still have bought a kit or two if the reliability reports were 100%.

Default Dual mag spring

I've seen this dual spring setup before, Beretta 92 type mags come in factory 15 & 17 round. Bodies on both are the same, only difference is the 17 rounder has this dual spring setup. I've run both extensively, there's been NO reported issues with the dual spring setup in 17s, and they've been around longer than I've owned a Beretta.

One nice feature besides the extra capacity is the ease of hand loading the last round. I use an Uplula loader so it doesn't matter to me. Yea, it's a lot of $$$ for one extra round but I've also spent as much on a +2 mag extension that didn't even come with a longer spring, at least the Mag Guts seems to work.

I was kinda concerned about that flat follower, I have a few 1911s and most of my mags are Wilson Combat & Chip McCormick with a curved or hybrid follower. I also have some Metalform mags with the old school flat follower like the Mag Guts. My Colt runs em all fine, but my Rock River Armory doesn't like that flat follower. Sounds like that's not an issue in the Shield though.
