Default Question on a M&P Pro 12/17/2012

I have a 40 Cal. M&P Pro Series that I have put on Layaway. It was built on 12-17-2012. my question is what kind of sear and trigger is in the pistol. Does it come with the apex. in it ? I really do not know much about the Pro Series and was wondering if I would have to upgrade the trigger. Best I remember at the LGS is that it did not feel like anything Pro so I was just curious about it. Can't wait to get it out and take her for a spin. I guess I will have to start reloading 40 Cal. now.
Really any info on the way this gun was made and what it has over the regular M&P would be appreciated.

Thanks guy's I have always wanted a Pro ever since I saw Hickok45 video on the Pro 9mm. I have had the compact (not really impressed with that model) and a Regular M&P FS Liked really well but thought I needed something else so now I finally have my 4.25" Barrel 40 Pro on Layaway.

None of the M&Ps come from the factory with Apex parts in them. Of course yours is used so, it could have some after market stuff in it.

Can't help without pics.

For one, the sites are different on the Pro models. The 5" barrel comes with Novak sites, green fiber optic for the front and blacked out sites on the rear. The 4 1/4" barrel Pro comes with 3 dot night sites. The Pro is supposed to have a better trigger in it with a 4 - 5 1/2 lb. pull. Mine did not, I got the 5" 9mm Pro and the trigger pull was almost 7 lbs. I talked to customer service and could have sent it back for them to adjust it but I opted to get an Apex FSS trigger kit as it would not only reduce the trigger pull but would also shorten the travel in the trigger. Now that the gun and trigger are broken in, I really love the gun as the trigger is great and it is one of the most accurate guns I have ever owned. BTW, no S&W guns come from the factory with any Apex trigger parts. I have to say that the Pro is my favorite gun to shoot right now and I hope you enjoy yours as much as I do mine. Regards, Elliot45

I have learned that Pro's are all over the map when it comes to trigger pull weight, I have a pro 4.25 made 2011 and that has a 5 # trigger pull. I pick up a Pro 5 inch and it came with a 6.5 # trigger pull, I did send back mine back to S&W but still not close to my other pro. If I had to do it all over again I wouldn't buy a pro again. I would get a plain FS and add the features that I like.

My 5" Pro, made June 2014, came with a pretty bad trigger. I bought it for a house gun and plinking gun rather than competition so I put in the Apex Duty/Carry action kit and their polymer trigger. That, with the stock trigger spring, gives a nice crisp break, probably around 4-4.5# but not measured, and almost zero over travel. Unlike the forward set trigger, there is still some take-up, but I wanted that in a defense gun that has no safety. From my perspective, it really doesn't negatively impact accuracy.

I have 2 Pro 9mm, both the 4 1/4" bbl with night sights and the 5" with front FO sight. Both triggers were somewhat gritty new, but with use and a little polishing on the striker block, both triggers are slick and about 4 1/2#. If you don't like to polish, you can buy a USB.
From all the posts I read and people I know, it seems that a few have real problems, but most jump in and change parts before trying use and some polishing. Aside from the ones needing repair, no Pro NEEDS an APEX kit, but if you WANT one, and are going to throw out the stock parts, maybe the Pro money is wasted. As an instructor, I have an opinion about people who yank the trigger and want to cure it by "fixing" the gun.
If you ever intend to shoot USPSA Production or IDPA Stock, be aware that the visible APEX trigger is not allowed in those divisions.

OKFC05, as I mentioned before, I could have sent my M&P back to S&W for repair. However, I read many positive posts on this forum regarding the Apex FSS trigger kit before purchasing one. Rather than waiting 6 to 8 weeks for S&W to fix and repair the trigger (and I was never guaranteed the trigger pull would be reduced to 4 to 5 1/2 lbs.) I decided to take a faster route and order the Apex kit which arrived in a couple of days. I got it installed and it not only put the trigger pull at 4 lbs., it also reduced the large amount of travel in the trigger. After putting 300 to 400 more rounds through it, this is one sweet shooting gun. I do agree with whoever suggested purchasing a regular M&P and replacing the trigger and maybe the sights too and coming out ahead. In my case, I was also looking at the Glock 34 which was over $100 more than what I spent for my initial purchase and after the Apex trigger purchase, I really didn't spend anymore than if I bought the Glock. However, I like the grips on the Pro a lot better than the Glock, especially since I put the large back-strap on mine. Regards, Elliot45

Guy's thanks for all the responses. Mine will be used when I do get it out of jail so the trigger will be broke in I am sure. I prefer to keep it stock. Can wait to give her a spin. Probably about 3 weeks before I get her out of jail though.
