Default BodyGuard 380

Is it good or bad to have a serial number of all 0's.

I would say that's pretty unique.

That is kinda werid, is it brand new from a gun store?

You might get 100 different answers here on the forums to this one but you'll get one right answer if you call S&W customer service 1 (800) 331-0852

thanks Capt.
I bought it from a pawnshop. The gun is new. Well, thats what I was told. From what I can tell it has not been used. It came in the box with everything I think it was supposed to have. Including the test fire casing.
The serial number is also on a label on the S&W box. I will give that number a call. Thanks again Capt

I believe it is the newer one. It also says .380 Auto BG 380 on the gun.
It has the INSIGHT Laser on it, not sure if that is available on the older one too....
The date on the test fire shell is 7/2013. I read somewhere that date is within a couple weeks of the manufacture date. I dont know if there is any truth to that. I have not called the number yet, but I plan on it. Most likely I will call tomorrow.

What you have is the original version (same as mine). The newer model has crimson trace laser. They also make a no laser model.
I have had mine for a few years and I love it. It serves as a backup to my 9mm Shield, and occasionally as a primary. I suggest getting a pachmyer grip sleeve which will make the gun more comfortable in hand. Shoot it and enjoy it. You made a fine purchase!

Thanks for the tip Protected,
I was thinking of getting the extended magazine for it. (10 rounds)
Any opinions on that?

Personally, I think it's a bad idea. 7 rounds is sufficient for most likely self-defense encounters. A larger mag just makes the gun bigger, and if you're going to carry a bigger gun then why not just carry a 9mm Shield or some other small 9mm?

The biggest benefit of the BG is that its size lets it be carried when a larger gun cannot be. Why defeat the purpose? Just carry a spare magazine.

Here's my bg with the 15 round mag you can get these on cheaper than dirt. I got this one for at the range only just got tired of loading 6 shoot 6 reload. I put a tape beside it so you can see how long they are I wound not use this for cc it's to long. If you would like more rounds to go in the clips that come stock with the bg check out Galloway they have a mag gut kit to make your mags hold 7. I have two of the mag kits in mine and they work nicely. If you call about your sn number I would like to know whAt they say about it.

Thanks again!
I think I will stick with the standard magazine for carrying. Maybe pick up a 10 or 15 rounder for the range. I dont plan on firing this one too much, Ill get another gun for that. Thanks for the feedback Protected

Thanks for the pic Mikey.
I didnt get much of a deal at the pawnshop. It was about 20 bucks cheaper than MSRP.
The customer service number is Monday- Friday. So I will call on Monday.
I will be sure to post what I find out from them.

Well, just put about 60 shots through the BodyGuard.
I experienced zero problems of any kind. ( if you dont count my accuracy) I slow fired and rapid fired both. So far I am very happy with the purchase. Its also very easy to take apart and clean. Nice, Simple, and Neat!
Thanks for the comments from everyone. Ill let you all know what I find out about the serial #. But I think I just got the first one of the batch. Ill will call monday

So nice to read a Positive post about the Bodyguard. I know, I for one, posted negative comments about the Bodyguard after a very disappointing first range visit. I had an open mind, reading about ammo selections, break-in periods etc. I am very happy I was patient (not usually that way), giving it time and eventually getting the positive results I was looking for. It will be a keeper for sure! Good luck with yours, as well! - Rick

hey Rick,
This is my first gun, so I dont really have anything to compare my experience with. But I am satisfied. Today I also got to shoot a .40, .45, 9mm, .22, and an AR. I think the BodyGuard will be just fine for my carry piece. I look forward to gaining experience and knowledge in the gun world. This is a great place to talk and share experiences. Im glad I found it.

i got a ten rd magazine for mine, its not bad but the finger grip slides up. So i put a small piece of blue painters tape on each side and slid grip part down over it. It worked real good. the other thing i noticed is my fingers dont rest well in the finger groves i have to spread fingers out a little to line up , but no major problem it does give you a better grip for sure.

No deal on it really. It was new and I paid $450 after taxes and all that jazz. It has the insight laser. I think it was a fair price, but no deal. I picked up a second 6 round mag. I will probably pick up a 10 down the road.
