Monarch does okay in my Shield, but some of my other pistols don't care for it. for about the same price (maybe a buck more?), there is better/cleaner brands out there.
For budget ammo, I prefer Federal Champion (WalMart Maroon box). If I can find it in the 100 round value packs... even better.
Now-a-days, I buy from Freedom Munitions. Sign up for their email 'Daily Specials'. They run 9mm and .40 specials almost weekly and often run Free Shipping, or $5 Shipping specials.
On a similar note (what brand might NOT work well)...
From reading a few different recent 'Kaboom' threads, MagTech seems to be a common factor in 40 Cal incidents. One recent thread can be found on M&P-Pistol.com (an M&P specific forum).

Keep in mind, if you ever have an issue, S&W will waive all liability if you use freedom munition, as it's considered remanufactured ammo, even the "new" stuff.

I don't own a Shield but I use any ammo I can get a hold off. How dirty or clean it is doesn't concern me. So far in 17 years of shooting I've never really had problems with any ammo.

Your comment about the reman-labled ammo is correct, I talked to Smith CS about that. I did not think to ask, and they did not mention, the new stuff. My range sells the new, but not the reman.
I'll ask a better question next time I talk to them.

Right, the reman issue is not specific to FM. But "factory new" is factory new.

It was in one of the kaboom threads. Forget which.
If you have time to kill, google "freedom munitions kaboom".
Seems to be a lot of threads floating around about that particular ammunition manufacturer.

Freedom Munitions is a RELOAD company. You use reloads at your own risk, whether your own or purchased from a company.

From this thread.
M&P Shield blew up, S&W only gave me a coupon for another one -
Was stated in the thread that he was using NEW freedom munitions ammo.

Not entirely true. It specifically states in the owners manual;
"WARNING: NEVER USE NON-STANDARD, RELOADED
OR “HANDLOADED” AMMUNITION WHICH HAS NOT
BEEN SUBJECTED TO INTERNAL BALLISTIC PRESSURE
TESTING"
I think Freedom Munitions is very well tested to industry standards, however if you feel that is an issue then dont buy it.. I have fired hundreds of rounds from Freedom and not one single issue. I suggest the 124 gr. FMJ. I will add that some of my best groups was with Freedom ammo & it is some of the cleanest burning ammo I ever fired. You might dig around and find a few who claim it blew their gun up or experienced performance issues, but I promise that you will find hundreds more who are very happy cutomers...And this is probably true for all ammo manufactuers
Now to stay on topic, Monarch is a decent brand ammo for the range. I have fired probably close to 1k rounds combined in both my BG380 & Shield 9. The ammo is a bit dirty however for economical range ammo it's fine.. Stay away from the steel case Monarch, only buy brass.

I've shot steel cased Monarch in both my Shield and M&P9 and never had any issues.

The monarch seems to do fine just runs dirty. Monarch is just a distributor though. There is steel cased stuff that's made in Russia that has a by-metal jacket on the projectile. Even if it's mild steel I'm really Leary about throwing steel down my barrels. For a few bucks more they have some brass cased stuff from Serbia that has the normal jacket. I would go with that if you decided to run some.

OK thank you for your inputs, I was going to run a few boxes to help with my break in period. Never had issues withe my xds spitting them out down range. I will be driving by the range tomorrow to a doc appointment and figure what a great time to put MRE rounds thru it and get more trigger time with it.
