I'm guessing this M&P needed a break in period huh?

Anyway, when I have a piece that has issues I shove the hottest thing I can find in it like NATO ball and run it like I stole it!
Even ol Mas Ayoob recommends you run at least 250 of your carry load thru your piece to ensure reliability, so a few 100 rounds of ball to break it in wont hurt.
And Speer Lawman 124gr. Ball is loaded yo almost 124+P Gold Dot velocity.

I am glad it's "loosening up" for you, I believe it will be a reliable shooter from now on. Since your experience is the same as mine (post #8 here), it looks like S&W is not the only manufacturer that puts sticky stuff into new guns. My Sig M-11 did the same.

runnerhiker, you're right in that everything loosened up. Since my update post on March 13, I've not had a problem with it feeding anything. Customer Service was correct in that they had indicated that some of the guns had been packed with something like Cosmoline which had caused problems for others too. It took me several cleanings and hundreds of rounds to get it out. Anyway, I've also replaced the trigger with an Apex FSS kit and I'm really happy with the gun now. The original trigger had almost a 7 lb. pull and I could have sent it back to the factory but I also wanted less travel in it before the trigger break so I decided that I would spend the bucks to get it to the way I wanted. But thanks for everyone's replies, appreciate them. Regards, Jim

Default My M&P 9mmL Pro Series CORE

Just took my new M&P 9mmL 5in Pro Series CORE pistol out this past weekend. No FTE's, no FTF's issues at all shooting 250 rounds. One thing I did notice was twice it failed to lock back. I have to say this was the shooter. I was holding the pistol with right thumb over right hand and close to the slide lock. Low and behold, my right thumb was resting on the slide lock keeping it from engaging on the last round. I moved the thumb over about 1/4in or more and no more failures. I was also able to reproduce this on a 92FS as well. Just my observation and maybe it will help someone else.
I installed the Trijicon RM07 6.5moa, love this pistol, very accurate. Next purchase is an APEX trigger and a couple of Taran extended base pads.

Sounds like you enjoyed it. A couple of suggestions, if you're going to put an Apex trigger in, go ahead and get the Flat Faced Forward Set Sear kit. The first time you try it you'll know why. Otherwise you'll do like most of us did and buy progressively more expensive Apex kits until we end up at the Flat trigger anyway. TTI extensions are great, what are you going to do for a magwell? I use Speed Shooters, they have a couple of different ones. An ESP version that will fit into the IDPA Box or the Limited one which is basically a big funnel. I like the big funnel since I stopped shooting IDPA. One thing to remember, if you get a magwell, your stock mags won't fit anymore without replacing the base pads (or trimming the stock ones severely.)

Welcome to the forum
First picture is my Core with the ESP magwell, I've retired it at 90K rounds and my wife shoots it occasionally. Second picture is my current comp gun.

Where do you get the replacement base pads? A URL would be great.

strange to have so much problems with 115Gr ammo. Mine M&P9L PC never jammed from the first day.
Did you clean it good? Clean gun & magazine with ZEP45, works nice with all guns & rifles I've.
The ammo I use for mine M&P 9L PC - Sig X-five SAO is Sellier & Bellot 115Gr... no problems with accuracy also!
Hopes it helps you

Your recoil spring could be too stiff. Maybe see if Smith would send you a new one.

To address the last two responses, the original thread is three months old. After multiple cleanings and about 300 rounds of 124 grain bullets, the problems have disappeared. The S&W customer service center originally indicated that they had problems with some of the M&Ps that had been packed in Cosmoline or something similar and they were right. The Shield i've purchased since the Pro did not have any of the same issues. Also since posting this thread, I had the Apex trigger kit installed and the Pro is one of the most accurate guns I own. It doesn't have problems with 115 gr. bullets anymore but I prefer the 124s which I buy in bulk at a good price from Freedom Munitions. Anyway, all is well. Regards, Elliot45
