Default S&W M&P Pro Series CORE 9mm

Hey All,
Been looking at this gun for quite some time now.

I mainly want it for my 9mm suppressor I have coming and like the gun overall. I do not do any competition shooting and I do have a shield and love it.

I was just curious which model to go with the 5" barrel or the 4.25" barrel? The main purpose of this gun would be for my suppressor and just for fun shooting.

I found one dealer that has the 5" instock online and the 4.25" seems to be instock at a lot of places. I'm not really sure which length to go with.

Any suggestions or help would be appreciated! Also any suggestions on where to get a suppressor barrel from would be awesome too. I did look at KKM but that is all I have looked at so far. Storm Lake I cannot find instock anywhere.

A 5" will be slightly more accurate than a 4.25" but it's more of a handful. There are four main aftermarket barrel makers Storm Lake, KKM, Bar Sto and Lone Wolf. Why do you need a silencer? Better to spend your money on the best Red Dot - Trijicon. Brownells and Midway sometimes have threaded barrels in stock but they are snapped up quickly by the Tacticool Crowd. Waste of time buying a threaded barrel and silencer if you ask me unless you want it for hunting. Getting a TB for a compensator is a better idea.

I mainly always wanted a silencer. Bought it in November along with one for my AR15. Just waiting on the ATF now.

So really not much of a difference other than being more accurate. I do plan on adding a red dot at some point but prob not till later this year.

For HD, carry and some range time get the 4.25". For the range only get the 5". You'll have a lot more fun with a Red Dot than a silencer and threaded barrel

I don't see myself carrying it. I barely carry my shield as it is since I can't carry to/from work due to their policies with firearms on the property haha.

Mainly it would be used for range time. Like I said I do plan on getting a red dot for it at some point later this year along with one for my AR probably closer to November/December, maybe even sooner.

So really it just comes down to personal preference on which one to get?

Carver has threaded barrels in stock (KKM) Smith & Wesson M&P Barrels-Threaded - Smith & Wesson M&P - Comps & Barrels: Glock-XDM-S&W M&P

I prefer KKM barrels, I use them in a both my competition guns.

The longer the barrel the more accurate it will shoot and you also have a longer sight radius and more velocity and reduced muzzle flip which makes it more accurate too. However a shorter barrel is easier to carry and will get on multiple targets quicker. It's your choice.

Another point to consider is the silencer. You will get a better balance with a shorter barrel. You really need to get both in your hand with a silencer on to make sure a 5" is not going to feel too front heavy.

For a CORE model, I would think resale value would be better for longer barrel, I see it as a range gun.

I have a 9mm suppressor and use it on a modified S&W semi-auto, an Uzi, and a Glock. I would not buy one if I could do it over. The suppressor is not all that effective (when compared with a .22 suppressor). It is still noisy (about like an unsuppressed .22 rifle), unless liquids added to the suppressor (via the muzzle). Water or a lubricant can be added (in small amounts), but the blowback through the ejection port will cover you with Carbon and residue (even ruining clothing), but it is quiet…at least with the first couple of shots. Some guns will not run unless a recoil device with a spring is mounted….usually with guns that have barrels that come out of battery (like the M&P), so be sure to send the gun to your gunsmith or the suppressor maker to be sure it runs. I ordered a titanium suppressor, but AAC could not make it work, so I was stuck with a Jupiter (heavy). All in all….a Pain-in-the-a….
I have since adapted the 300 blackout muzzle brake to accept the 9mm adaptor for use with subsonic loads.

The one thing I must say….the Uzi is incredibly more accurate with the suppressor….shoots one-large-hole groups at 20 yds.

Suppressors are fun as long as you have a place to shoot it where you can take off the muffs. :-) I personally would opt for the 4.25" because you are fixing to add a long nose to it. seems the shorter barrel might make for a better balance. My LGS has issues keeping threaded barrels in stock, it just takes work. I know S&W makes threaded M&P barrels, have you tried contacting them and see if they sell them as accessories?

Thanks guys.

Mediumbore, I have been leaning towards the 4.25" from what some of the people have said and I did contact 2 youtube users that posted videos with CORE's they had silencers on and they both were 4.25 and said they shoot great.

I also did email S&W late last night and explained which pistol I was looking at getting and if they would sell me a threaded barrel for it. So, I'm really hoping they say yes.

The AAC Ti-Rant 9 has the ASAP system for semi-auto pistols as AAC puts it. I cannot access the site now due to work blocking it but I can get the info later tonight on it.

They aren't mutually exclusive. Red dots with suppressors can be a great setup.

Handgun hunting with a 9mm? You can do it, but most people who actually own and shoot with handgun suppressors would tell you that hunting isn't why they have their handgun suppressor. The ability to go shoot without hearing protection on and without disturbing others nearby would probably rank a lot higher.

It sounds like you enjoy competing with the M&P, which is great, but others may have a different use for the gun. In the OP's case, a compensator would do the opposite of what he's looking for: it would make the gun louder.

Congrats on the suppressor purchase! You will enjoy it. I have several myself and I use them pretty much every time I shoot now, whether at the range or while hunting. The M&P CORE with the taller sights and ability to mount a red dot should make an excellent suppressor host. Personally, I would get the 4.25" model, but both should work well.

Default 4.25 40C

Get the 4.25" 40C version and add a 9mm threaded non compensated conversion barrel. Now you have a pistol that can fire .40S&W compensated, or 9mm with your suppressor. Add yet another conversion barrel and you can shoot .357 SiG. The combinations are mind boggling. I own a 5" 9mm with a threaded barrel with an RMR optic with which I use an Osprey suppressor and wish that it was a 4.25" CORE. A suppressed M&P CORE with suppressor is REALLY fun to shoot!

Thanks guys! I think after doing more research and hearing more feedback I will probably go with the 4.25" CORE. Though I did just talk to someone who held both with a suppressor on and said he didn't feel much balance difference. But I don't know, I do like the 4.25 and it is easier to find.

I never used a suppressor before and look forward to finally getting it. Hopefully by the end of Summer maybe haha.

Just wanted to pop back in and thank everyone again for the advice!

I just called the LGS and he ordered me in the 4.25"! Pretty excited about it and hopefully will have it by the weekend maybe!

What holster goes best with the 4.25 C.O.R.E with RMR or delta point optics... Using it for USPSA. I tried the serpa concealment, but don't know if it's a viable or legal option.

If you're going to shoot USPSA, you will be in the Open Division, there are very few "rules" in that Division (that's why I like it ) I've used a number of different holsters as I progressed. I started with a Blade Tech Revolution that was made for a 9 compact but my 5" core with a Deltapoint fit in it with no problem. I then went with a Blade Tech speed holster, it was designed for the core, I finally ended up with a Safariland 014, which is what I use now. One warning, if you want to use the 014 on a 4.25" Core, you will need to make a spacer as the holster doesn't adjust short enough. Not hard, I have a spare short slide that I use occasionally and I made a spacer out of a 1" dowel, see picture 4 below. (that was during my "wheelchair" shooting period)

Is there a holster or some sort of trigger protection for a S&W CORE with RMR and a Supressor attached? Don't like the idea of not having the trigger covered.

Thanks

Every legal holster is required to cover the trigger. I think in your case with the suppressor, this is probably your only option. Race Master Holster

Does anyone have any experience with AAC M&P Barrels or where I could find any reviews on them? They have them in stock and said that it would work for the 4.25 CORE.

I was looking since I got a $200 coupon for their website.

I have heard their finish is not up to Storm Lake standards but if you're getting one for free, why not.

Thanks ATF. It wouldn't be entirely free it would still cost me like $65 with shipping but still much cheaper than paying 240 else where.

Bkreutz, AAC is Advanced Armament Corps. they make suppressors like the one I just bought, The Ti-Rant 9.
