I'd like to get a .22 caliber pistol to save money on ammo and introduce my daughter to shooting. I like the feel of the M&P compact .22, but my LGS doesn't rent them at the range. I'd like to know what people who own this gun think about it. Thanks.

I have had my M&P 22LR for some time and find that it is well worth the cost to have and use at the range and in the field. I find that trigger pull is much lighter and the pistol does not have a well matched weight and feel as my full size M&P 9mm or my M&P 9mm Shield as the M&P 22LR grip does not have an interchangeable insert and the pistol is lighter. I might suggest that you consider for her, a keeper and much usable in the future for self defense, a M&P 9mm Shield.

I have an M&P 22 compact and I absolutely love it! It's easy to load, is extremely accurate and super easy to break down for cleaning.

I love mine. It eats anything I feed it. My oldest daughter liked it so much she bought one of her own. It is the only gun my younger daughter will shoot. (She has wrist issues and can't shoot anything larger).

I love mine too (actually, it is my wife's<g>). As others have said it is surprisingly accurate and it eats every kind of ammo I have used in it. My only problem was that the sights were not at all sighted in when we got the gun. An hour at the range with sandbags took care of that...

I have both a Shield 9 and a .22 compact. They are very similar in size (one of my galco holsters actually fits either one well).

I've had ammo issues with Federal champion / Lightning and American Eagle, but CCI SV, Minimags, Rem Golden Bullet, Rem Thunderbolt, Blazer, and some Winchesters (not all) have worked great.

At 5000 rounds it had to have the takedown lever replaced, but otherwise is original equipment / springs.

Yes, the rear sights were off out of the box, but they do provide the correct hex wrench to adjust. They do drift on occasion, but it hasn't been an issue.

Extra mags had been an issue, but I just a week or so ago found them on Midway at what worked out to be a better price after new customer / shipping promos were added.

I would not hesitate to buy another one if the need arose.

I recently bought one for my 18YO daughter. It is her first handgun. She loves it.

I recently purchased M&P22C for myself and wife as introduction for her to handguns and target shooting. We love the size and features and so far no issues with ammo. Light and good size for her and not too small for my hands. Remington Thunderbolt 22LR seems to work fine for us. The M&P seems to be a quality gun for me as a newbie. As we get more into the sport I will consider an M&P FS 9mm maybe as a birthday present for myself. So far very happy with the 22Compact. Only issue for me where I live is the fact I have to search constantly for 22LR ammo. Luckily I purchased a few boxes(500ea) but anytime I can find it I will purchase multiple boxes in future. No problem with many other size ammo, just locally 22LR is scarce.

Great training and practice gun. Especially for new shooters that have problems of one kind or another with larger guns, it can still serve as a self defense gun. The simple brandishing of a firearm when warranted stops more problems than actually having to fire. And I doubt many want to volunteer to catch the lowly 22.

Own one, wifes gun, very good. Very accurate, easy to load. You will not regret buying it.

I just bought one and have to say it is the best 22 pistol I have ever owned. Shoots great and super accurate. Straight out of the box and didn't even have to adjust the sights. Hits everything I want.

On a side note.................mine has eaten everything I've fed it and begged for more. I've tried just about every brand and type of ammo I could find (except sub-sonic) with zero issues.

I would however, recommend staying away from Remington Golden Bullets and CCI Blazers. They both are extremely dirty ammo and will cake up your barrel with soot in no time as well as fill the area you are in with thick black smoke. If you use them in an indoor range, you may want to wear a respirator.
