Default BG 380 or LCP Custom

I was at the LGS today and finally decided to get a 380 pocket gun. I really wanted a MP BG but it came down to a choice between the BG and the LCP Custom. Both guns felt good in my hand but the BG was just a bit more comfortable. I liked the sights on both guns but a bit better on the LCP Custom. I also liked the trigger break a lot better on the LCP Custom. The LCP also seemed a bit lighter and more comfortable in the pocket. Also like the fact the LCP Custom does not have a manual safety. I'm just not use to one as my MP40C does not have one. It was a hard 2 hour decision holding and messing with the 2 guns and after reading all the negative post on here about the BG I had to go with the LCP Custom as bad as I hated to buy something other than a S&W MP. Thanks to all who posted it and gave feedback on my previous thread about the BG 380.

I agree with that decision. I was in the same boat a year ago but decided against a pocket gun. It was between the same 2 guns, and it would have gone to the lcp if it was readily available in my state.

I would have opted to the revised lcp (gen 2) over the custom though. The custom just looks sort of gimmicky to me. Anyway, those lcp do feel nice in the hand and pocket for sure. The sights and trigger are pretty good too. Nice pick up.

My second BG (MP version) is on its way back to me from S&W after being repaired for light strikes. And when it gets here, I plan on trading it in on an LCP Custom, even if it costs me $200+. Have had too much first hand experience with the spotty reliablity of this 380 platform, and always trying to alleviate their problems with two separate versions to even consider it for a SD weapon. I own five other S&W MP models, and not a single one them has given me a problem, they have all been great except the BG.

You made a wise choice OP, and at least you didn't learn the hard way.......as I did!

The best mod for the LCP is the Hogue grip that is made specifically for the LCP. $10 bucks and it's transformational. Trust me!

I believe, rather than because of the Hogue's material, the transformation is due to the recoil being spread over a larger area of your hand. Whatever - it's a must-have addition.

The upgraded sites on the LCP custom and the Galloway trigger are a real game changer.

Being a lefty, the one-sided safety on the BG380 is a no go for me (YMMV). I'd also pick a stainless LCP over the custom for pocket carry. What I chose for that niche was a Kahr CW380. Mine has been reliable and is much more comfortable to shoot. More accurate in my hands as well vs the LCP I tried side by side.

I rarely carry it. I much prefer my 642. On the rare occasion that I just can't carry the J-frame, I'll put the Kahr in my pocket in a Desantis Nemesis.

Must depend on the vintage of the BG. I have one and love it. Not saying you made a bad decision, just saying the BG gets some bad rap it doesn't deserve. I wish there was a way to do a poll on here to see how many owners are happy.

Absolutely love my new LCP Custom. The pistol is not a gimmick, it sports some pretty darn good upgrades. For me, all the factory upgrades along with the addition of the Hogue Grip and the seven round mags makes the LCP a wonderful pocket pistol.

I like the BG just fine, but the trigger stroke of the LCP is a vast improvement over the BG. The lack of external safety on the LCP is moot as I have no use for that on my carry guns. As for .380 ACP for defense I always fall back on my mantra whenever I carry one over any of my 9mms; if he's worth one, he's worth the whole mag. No bad guy regardless of drug addition is going to feel too chipper after eight XTPs in his chest.

Just sold my MP BG, ordered an LCP Custom last week, should have it soon. It's so convenient you don't have to spend extra for a Galloway trigger upgrade, and the new raised sights include a tritium dot in the front for better night vision. Just $289 plus $6 shipping at Grabagun.com.

I just traded a LCP in, though it wasn't a custom. Haven't shot the BG yet but that LCP is too "jumpy" for me. Found myself wrapping my left pointing finger around the trigger guard just to get over one round out actually aimed. The thing jammed every time I filled a clip too, it only came with one and I bought another thinking the original was the problem. 6 round clip, could only put 5 in it or it would jam. It had enough power but I could only get one shot off in the right place without regripping. Maybe I just suck. I grew to dislike it and traded it in for a payment on my 9C.

JFYI, The front sight is not a tritium sight, it's a Photo-luminescent glow in the dark sight. It does work pretty good. If you charge it will still glow for several hours; I have tried it and can attest to it. As for the trigger; The trigger does not actually make the trigger stroke lighter verses the gen 2 one it just gives the user a better feel with the wider trigger itself. Does it feel better than the regular one yes IMO. Overall the Custom model is a keeper IMO and I prefer it to my BG.

I have both an LCP and a BG380.On the LCP,I changed out the trigger with a Gallloway and added the Hogue grip.On the BG,I did both the trigger and trigger bar.I alternate both depending on the mood.I find the BG to be easier to shoot and more accurate than the LCP although it is a bit heavier.I like to pocket carry and either gun fits the bill.I am now looking into a pocket carry 9mm and I think it might be the Kahr CM9.Any suggestions?

Was wife's, now my very early model. My wife carried it for over 2 years & put a lot of ammo down range with it, still loves it but has moved up to M&P9c she loves it also.
I could never keep a good enough grip on the LCP to shoot it well. when the wife gave her go ahead I got the heaver recoil spring & the Hogue grip , it does make it a better shooter for me & the laser helps too.
After break in it has been nothing but solid reliable.

+1 on the Hogue grip for better feel and control. I went with the LCP because it had what I thought a better trigger feel than the BG. I also added the Pearce finger extension.

Just picked my LCP Custom today. Agree the trigger pull is a big improvement over BG's and earlier model LCP's. Fit and finish was pretty good overall. Doesn't have the second strike capability like the BG, but even that didn't didn't do me any good on my last MP BG. Don't really miss having a safety. A Hogue Handall Grip is on its way, as is another item I found which makes takedown even easier -

Tool-less Takedown Pin for LCP

And if it appears to have too much snap for a long day at the range, here's another inexpensive and easy fix to consider -

http://www.brownells.com/handgun-par...?sku=969000226

Now to see if it cycles and goes bang when I pull the trigger with greater consistency than either of my two previous BG's which I had to get rid of because of reliability issues.........if it does it will go in one of my pants pockets during the warm weather seasons.

Taurus TCP 380 in my opinion has the best trigger of the pocket rockets.

The downside of the Taurus TCP are the sights. They stink but I figure for a self defense weapon using sights will get you killed.
