Default New Shield owner

First the history of this gun. Ordered the M&P Shield 40 from my local sporting goods warehouse. Gun came in, did my drose, waited my 10 days then excitedly took it home. Only then did I notice that my 40 said 9 on the slide, $it. Took it back to the store to find S&W made a mistake. Serial number said it was supposed to be a 40. Back to S&W, wait another 3 weeks. Finally got the it home, yea! Now comes my questions, sorry about the long post, both sights are shifted off to the right, is that normal. S&W said they shot it so should be good ? Next, the magazine springs are so tight I can hardly get any rounds in them, is this normal for new mags? As you can probably tell this is my first new gun and so far the experiance has not been pleasant. Again, sorry for the long post. Any advice is surely appreciated.

OK, back the truck up....

You ordered a .40. Gun comes in and says .40 on the box (by this I mean part number/SKU). Serial numbers match the frame, the box and any other paperwork. However it has a 9mm slide and barrel?

Mags are tight when new. Get an Uplula univeral mag loader.

Yep, and it took three weeks for S&W to correct it and get it back to me. Now I have to take it to a gunsmith and have sights checked since they are so far off center of the slide,

You could try shooting it to see if the sights are off. Cheaper than a gunsmith.

You ordered a .40 but claim that it has a 9mm barrel & slide yet the serial # says that it's supposed to be a .40 and you took it home before noticing it? SMH.

Now you're asking for "any advice?

Yeah sure... here's some advice... Always inspect a firearm before heading out the door. Make sure all accessories are included & that nothing is missing, check for function and oh... make sure its the right gun.

What I dont understand is, why didn't you check out the weapon at the store when you picked it up? I find it hard to believe that both you & the salesman didnt inspect the weapon before walking out the door...

It's not like the "M&P Shield 9" logo on the slide is too small to notice.

A second on shoot it first. Clean it, lube according to the manual and try shooting it with decent quality practice ammo, ideally the same bullet weight as you intend to use.

If point of impact = point of aim, you are good to go. If not maybe have a friend, with pistol experience, try it to minimize human error. If there's a problem after that, might be time to see a Gunsmith or call customer service.

Good luck!

p.s. What's a drose/DROSE? I'm guessing a limitation of oppressive government.

Perfectly understandable. I now own five pistols my first being a S&W model 686 bought back in 1993. I'm seriously considering a M&P Shield .40 to keep my Shield 9 company. I still feel like a kid on christmas day when I'm at the gun store lol.
