Default .357 Sig Police trade in

First, I have had lots of Glocks but have no experience with the S&W M&P and thought I might give one a try. I have found a M&P .357 Sig police trade in, blued with night sights and 1 15 round mag for $299.99. I had a Glock and an FN in .357 and a .40 barrel for each which I will do for the M&P if that is possible. So what do y'all think?

Price seems good, but I question the future viability of the caliber.

That's a pretty good price to get you into the M&P platform. From there you can go to .40 and 9mm, so its pretty versatile. As far as the .357 Sig caliber goes, I'm not a huge fan, mainly because of price, and availability concerns. The only way I'd do the deal though is if I planned on sticking with the .357 as my main cartridge, otherwise, I'd look for the same kind of deal on a .40 and never think twice about it. YMMV.

A few LE agencies in my area use .357 sig. The OHP and Texas DPS are the biggest two, and claremore PD.

If it is in good condition, NS work, 299 is a good price, that I would not pass up. I like the 40 SW, I have not shot enough of the 357 sig, but on "paper" Corbon 40 SW 135 gr 4" ~585 ft/pd VS 357 Sig 125 gr 4" ~ 600 ft/pd. I have SW Sigmas, Glocks,Sig in 40 SW and 357 sig, and M&P in 40. So if they have another nice one PM me. Be Safe,

Don't think i would be able to pass up an M&P in .357 sig for that price. Bought one several years ago and foolishly sold it. Other than ammo cost it was a fun, accurate pistol.

Have a similar config, 40 M&P and added 357sig and 9mm barrels. Of the three, I enjoy shooting the 357sig the most, which is kinda odd I guess, but I like it. Ammo, yep hard to find. I keep several hundred rounds Federal and CCI premium stuff on hand, and several cans of Georgia Arms for range and training use, etc.

NEVER TRY THIS AT HOME

My training inventory has 3 FS 357SIG M&Ps in it right now

Got the one in the middle in 2008, the other two were manufactured 4 years later. When these first came out, four of us went to the range with them. One of my associates came over to me and told me his had suddenly started to shoot about 6" low.

Stupidly, I went over, picked up the firearm and pulled the trigger As soon as it fired I knew he had a projectile stuck in the bore. Yes I do know better than to just fire a pistol with an issue, I just had too much faith in my friend.

One of his rounds was a squib, he had ejected the empty case and kept firing. Each subsequent shot would hit the stuck projectile and push it out of the barrel fast enough to get on paper leaving another projectile lodged in the bore.

I pulled the firearm from service and we took it back to my office. The barrel had no tactically detected bulge in outer surface. I grabbed a borescope (after removing the projectile) and there was no ring in this barrel.

7 rounds had been fired with a bore obstruction and there was no barrel damage. Each projectile had gone on to hit it's target (though a bit low).

These are strong pistols.

I ran into some "weak" 40 SW brass, ball ammo, first shot, The M&P ripped the head off, case fell out, bullet hit the target, and mag was blown out. ( first time firing the gun, I thought I had not pushed the mag in tightly) case head "ejected". There was multiple cases on the ground so I did not notice one torn up. Re inserted the mag, fired the second shot, same except the head case was stuck in barrel. I removed the case, emptied the mag, disassembled the gun and mag, nothing appeared broken/damaged. I reloaded a different mag with different ammo, gun fired fine, ejected intact case, but mag dropped. Did it occur from the first bad round? Which was the first time I had ever fired this or any other M&P. ( I thought this might be a S&W speed training drill- fire, retrieve mag, repeat times 16!! ). S&W CS was going to send me a mag catch, but I sent it in to be replaced and "checked". They replaced mag catch, no further problems, as for the ammo , it was set on the side, broke down, 10 charges/ bullets weighed, with in spec. Consulted someone who knew more about the loads, and I found out about some 40 S&WBrass that had been damaged due to cleaner used, ( 2005-2006 ?) apparently - most/all had been destroyed- OOPS!!.. Have not had a problem since. I bought one of the 357 sig M&P yesterday. Be Safe,

Got the pistol in today and it looks good. I gave the outside a quick cleaning and ran a rag down the barrel and it looks good as new. It came with a 15 round mag and the night sights have plenty of glow. Though it is not really a big deal the only issue was the ad said it would come in either a blue or black case but mine came in a box. I emailed the seller and he apologized and said he would send me one. I ordered a S&W .40 barrel from Brownell's that should arrive tomorrow and hopefully I can get to the range and give both barrels a workout.

Update; I got the 357 sig M&P, very good to excellent condition, bright NS, works well. They also had a Model 10-8 Pinned 4" HB, it has blue wear but it has a sweet action, the grips were ****** but I have plenty of K frame grips. Be Safe.
