Default Added A Shield 9MM to the fold

Well after A lot of time thinking about it, I picked up A Shield in 9mm yesterday.

Brought it home broke it down and went over it.
Oiled it up headed outback and sent 8 rounds thru it.

I was impressed! I didnt like how it felt like it was running dry when I racked the slide and when it was cycling.
So in the house and up to the bench. Broke it down for A look, All looked well.

But being A Sig shooter I cleaned it again and lubed it with my normal Slide Glide Lite grease as I do with my Sigs.

Grabbed 2 boxes of ammo (115 and 124 gr RN) and headed to the range for A session.

Took A couple Mags to get the hold and sights down. Then all was well.

Anyone have any tips or tricks for this gun?

I figure the trigger will smooth out with A couple hundred more rds. Plus I have to get used to it also.

It seems to like the 115 gr better than the 124s.
Thats opposite of normal for me as I mainly shoot 124gr flat point thru all my 9 mms.

I must admit though, This is the first gun I have bought that I dont feel the need to work with the grip or mess with sights.
It works for me right out of the case.

Any thoughts and suggestions welcomed.

My experience is very much like yours. Its been my my EDC for a couple years now (after trying a G27, P938 and LC9). And yes, the trigger will smooth out after 400-500 rounds. The only change I've made is to swap out the factory sights with TruGlo TFO day/night sights and a Crimson Trace laser. Yes, the weapon prefers 115g bullets. Tried 124 and 147g too, but the POA and POI is best with 115g in my weapon. For range rounds I use the 115g Freedom Munitions FMJ RN or FN. For EDC I use Hornady Critical Defense 115g FTX ammo. The Critical Duty 135g +P is a bit too stout for the weapon; the 135g +P changes the POI somewhat -- an inch or so high.

Freedom Munitions is what I ran through the Shield yesterday.
I'll be working up A load that suits the Shield, Once I run some more factory ammo thru it

Congrats again on the new Shield.
These guns are pretty great straight out of the box, but I did make a couple of adds for my benefit.
I added Talon rubberized grips, Pearce pinky extensions on the mags, and painted the white dots brite orange up front, and brite green on the rear.
A lot of people mess with the trigger, but after about 700 rounds and 500ish dry fires, it works just fine for me.
Have fun and be safe.

Your trigger will get better with use. Mine shot tighter groups with 124 gr Gold Dots than with 115gr or 147gr ammo. The first two shoot n see targets looked exactly like yours. Congrats on a fine little pistol. tom.

Thanks for the replies guys. Had it out to the range with some of my 124 gr rn reloads. am liking it more each time I shoot it.
The Talon rubber grip came in today and is on, So I will try that out tomorrow.
Gun feels great to me but it was just A tad too slick for me, So I added the Talons

Default 526 rounds

As strange a it may be my Shield magically change at 526 rounds.
I just purchased a M&P 45c Friday and my Shield trigger feels like a single action compared to the 45c I hope 500+ round will make my new Pistols trigger a good as the Shields. I have found that not lubing the trigger components during the breaking in period help smooth things out. My 2 cents. Congrats on your new Shield.

I never was real big on small guns but I love my Shield 9mm.
Had it a little over a year and started to carry it daily a couple of months ago (it replaced my G26).

Very nice contours and slimness so very comfy for IWB which is my style of carry, yet big enough to get a good grip. Good capacity compared to 5or 6 rds of some smaller guns too.

Congrats on the new acquisition!

Went to the range today with my Shield 9mm. She likes American Eagle and Freedom Munitions 124 grain FMJ. Does NOT like Federal Aluminum 115 grain FMJ. My carry ammo, 124 grain Federal HST, runs flawless!

I can't praise the APEX carry trigger kit enough! Awesome!! Also, I am loving the Trijicon HD sights that I installed.

Total rounds to date: 825

+1 on the Freedom munitions 124. gr fmj's... I ordered a whole case of the stuff when they offered the flat rate 7.50 shipping. ( i think it sstill going on now)

I heard that, and it makes complete sence, that mixing steel case or aluminum case ammo with brass can lead to ejection & feeding failures...what happens is the steel case doesnt expand when firing and it builds up a thin layer of carbon around the chamber and when the shooter loads up brass the carbon buildup causes the brass to not chamber fully, or cause to not feed properly...

Good to hear you're liking your Shield. I added the TruGlo TFO sights and some grip tape to mine. I also didn't like the tame serrations on the grip. I needed more grip, but also just a tad more girth on the grip. The grip tape works perfectly, and yes, the trigger breaks in tremendously over the course of 500 rounds. Enjoy the your new gun. Mine has been absolutely stellar.
