Older 9mm M&P (what will it need?)
Hello all, 1st time poster-new guy!!
I have the opportunity to pickup a older full size 4.25 barrel/17+1
Called S&W, and checked serial # BVX33XX, and it was made in Feb. 06/2008.
What kinda things do I need to look for--good and bad??
any pointers, and help will be appreciated--as I know very little about this particular weapon.
Thanks, Rocky

When you get it, take the slide off and look at the striker, if it's shiny, you're good to go, if it's black, you need to call S&W and request a replacement. The early ones were black and were prone to breakage. Here's a pic of an old one and a new one.

Welcome to the Forum
It is hard for me to get a grasp on your calling a pistol that has only been around for 7 years as "older"
One of the K-22s that I use for teaching novice shooters to not be scared of recoil was manufactured over 60 years ago.
As already mentioned you can check for the older striker.
The only thing you will need is ammunition and time to shoot it.

I had just started reading this forum, and had picked up on a few changes that had come down the pike-(ie) triggers, ect. so I do stand corrected on "older"--just a new guy trying to learn!!
thanks for everyone's input.

Bought my LNIB M&P 45 from a LGS where I shoot indoors. Test fire date 2007! Cleaned it (didn't really need it), lubed it, been shooting it ever since. Only problem is having enough ammo :-) Shot some PMC 230 gr. FMJ through it yesterday, and as always-goes bang and hits the target every time!

Sometimes on a used gun enhancements have already been done. I bought a barely fired 2006 M&P FS 9mm back in 2012. It was stock as the day is long. But it had a grittiness on the trigger pull and no detectable reset. Ordered the Apex Tactical ultimate striker block (USB) and the reset assist mechanism (RAM) and put those 2 issues to bed. Later I installed one of their triggers (forget which one) for a more precise trigger pull. Now it is quite the hot rod!

Despite it's relative youth, it's certainly and "older" model.
Once you verify the striker pin, go buy ammo and shoot it. Once you get the feel for it, you can consider swapping out parts.
If you go Apex, certainly consider the H stamped trigger bar and new slide lock with the "bump".
Heck even if you don't go Apex, these are good improvements.

Sorry. I got the H trigger bar and slide stops from G&R. I also picked up a sear housing block with the PC sear to try it out.
You just need to keep checking. It looks like the trigger bars are in stock but not the stops. However, the minimum order is $50
