Default Turning Ambi-safety into a single sided safety?

I did a search but found no info on turning the ambi-safety into a single sided safety. I was thinking of taking off the right side of the safety off (close to the frame), just leaving the left side of the safety... like the 1911 with a single sided safety. Any thoughts, ideas, experiences.... thanks!

Removing the right side lever will still leave the post it mounts on at the same height and more than likey catch on clothing and hamper your draw. Best option is to order a single side version and install it.

I recently did the opposite of what you are doing and purchased an ambi version from Numrich. Mine dropped right in and required no fitting.

You should have no problem selling the ambi version. They are
highly sought after by us "gifted left handers" and will command a premium price.

There are several Youtube videos that explain the change procedure quite well.

Interesting. Where can this single side safety be purchased? I've never heard of one and would be interested to see a link so we could get them.

Assuming that this can't be found, it's not hard to modify your existing thumb safety.

Cut off the paddle where it bends to go through the frame. Be sure not to cut the part indicated by the red arrow. That is the actual part that blocks trigger movement.

The drawback to this mod is that you will have a small hole where the safety passes through the frame. As you can see from this pic...

...the frame plug interferes with the operation of the safety.

It's only an aesthetic issue and won't interfere with the function of the gun.

My 2013 Core has the plugged Internal Lock hole and no safety cutout. My 2012 and 2014 FS (and my 2012 compact) have safety cutouts (with plugs) but no IL holes.
