I purchased the apex FSS trigger kit and I was wondering what the small yellow and the blue spring are for??? I watched the videos on the install on apex website but they do not mention anything about these two springs. Please help.

I have not done a FSS from Apex, but I have done plenty of their sears. Are the springs the same size as your stock sear spring under the plunger? I think they give you a couple different sear springs in that kit to tune it to your liking.

The blue spring is for a RAM they say you should change your RAM spring to this one when you install an APEX kit but I don't know why. I left my original RAM spring in because I only read about this later. Someone tell me if they know

There is no yellow spring that's a slave pin for installing the trigger, it used to be metal. The green spring is the heavier trigger spring and the silver one lighter. Trust me use the silver one. Then you have the sear spring and the USB spring you can't mix them up

I used the 4lb silver spring. the actual color is more brass and its smaller than the ram spring. It was not the striker spring already did that. Even in the videos from apex they did not mention these two springs. hmmm. How much pre travel do you have? so far its a lot less then stock with mine but I was hoping it would be less then what I am getting

You may have got an older kit that included a 1/16" sear spring for the older striker block. My setup has virtually zero travel and reset. Did you install an FSS or DCAEK kit with an APEX trigger?

I suppose it's about that, hardly anything. You can adjust it with the trigger bar but I wouldn't bother 1/16" is fine. Regarding your brass colored spring is it 1/16"? Just curious.

No that spring larger diameter then 1/16 I thing I will play with my trigger bar a bit to close it in more. but not until I go to the range. Gotta say though the new trigger fss from apex kicks some serious butt compared to the factory trigger. I can't wait until tomorrow to test it out on the range!!!

Are you sure you changed the sear spring? If you ordered the FSS kit and trigger separately you would have got an extra sear spring. Which would is 1/8" diameter.

yes positive I changed the sear spring. well I hope I did lol this is my first handgun that is not a 1911 so I am more than willing to take advice. Hand me a 1911 and I know it very well, so If I am correct the two different lb springs 5 and 4 lbs are the sear springs correct???

The 5lb and 4lb springs are the trigger springs they are on the right of the pic. Then you have the USB spring which is next to the USB (Ultimate Striker Block) left side of pic. The sear spring is the one above the silver trigger spring. The sear spring fits under the sear which is pictured far left. Blue spring RAM spring if you decide to install a RAM (Reset Assist Mechanism).

1. Remove rear sight so you can change the USB and install it with the APEX USB spring. Careful you don't lose the little black spring cap for the USB spring. That's what the black tool is for to keep it in place when removing and replacing the rear sight.
2. Remove the striker block housing and remove the sear. There's a mushroom shaped cap under the sear with a spring. Remove this cap and replace the spring with the APEX sear spring then refit the cap and replace the stock sear with the APEX sear.
3. Install either of the trigger springs together with the APEX trigger making sure the open end of the spring loop faces up.

Thanks for the info. I didn't realize the RAM spring could create sear flutter. My M&P is 9mm BTW

Did you really mean the blue RAM spring or the stock sear spring? I've heard that the stock sear spring when used with the Apex sear can result in flutter but not the RAM.

Oh wait, I get it. If you do not change your existing RAM spring for the new blue RAM spring it may introduce flutter even after you have installed the Apex sear spring. Correct?

FTF? What are the words? I think by sear flutter you are describing a condition whereby You get a second firing from one trigger pull. I am newbie with pistols.
Reason I am interested is on my new M&P 40 Pro I had an incident where after a particular shot the trigger was so light I just touched it and the gun fired. That has me worried. In the mean time I clear the gun before laying it down or Holstering it.

That's a Thumb Safety SHB you cannot instal a RAM. If your M&P is newer you should have the new slide lock which will give an audible reset. Your M&P probably has the square cut outs in the frame.

Correct. The RAM is to achieve a positive reset so check if your M&P has a hump like this on the inside right. If you want an audible and positive reset get one of the latest slide stops instead because you can't use a RAM.

Sorry about all the questions, this style handgun is new to me and thanks for all the good info. I will check that out for my next upgrade. What are the benefits of replacing the slide stop to that one?

It'll click when you pull the trigger and click when the trigger reaches reset. Some people believe this is important others don't. Your choice

Just got back from the range. Trigger feels great but I have a new issue. need to get used to the trigger lol. I am pulling to the left consistantly. At First I thought my rear sight was off, so I took it to a gunsmith and verified that its dead on. He fired a few rounds out of it and hit center mass. I guess I need to get used to the different trigger and pull

If you are used to 1911's this is normal. A polymer gun is lighter.

Ok so does anyone know why APEX provides a different RAM spring with the FSS kit? Also is it lighter or heavier? I know the RAM spring for magazine disconnect M&P is lighter.

That is a cool chart. I am going to print that out and use it as a reminder. I have always been a very accurate marksman with rifles and 1911 handguns. I would always score expert in the military but the polymer is new to me. It is a great gun and I am having a blast with it. It is fun learning a new style weapon.

What have people buying the 40c found the stock trigger pull to be? And what is the average after the Apex kit is put in and are there 2 different kits with differing pull weights?

A new 40C is in the mail ..

I can't speak for the compact, but my full-size M&P 9 stock trigger measured 6 lbs 3 oz. I installed the FSS and aluminum trigger kit with the light spring and the trigger pull dropped to 4 lbs 8 oz. The heavier spring should be about one pound higher.

On my .40c after the apex fss kit I noticed the difference in trigger lbs but I did not measure as I do not have a way to. I also put in the lighter spring. Overall I believe that the apex fss kit is a smoother trigger with less pre and post trigger travel.
