Default M&P .22 Compact - Trigger

Is there something inexpensive that can be done to improve the quality of the trigger pull on this gun?

Clean it.
Lube it.
Shoot it.
Repeat PRN.

I've cleaned and lubed it several times before shooting and it doesn't seem to be any better. Looks like it's most likely a defect. Thanks for the reply.
