Looking at the specs, both seem real close. Walther costs a bit more. Looks like a decent little firearm.

Anyone have an opportunity to compare the two?

I own a PPS, its a great carry gun and also shoots like a full size pistol at the range, its unbelievably accurate for a small pistol. Guns and Ammo compared 10 single stack 9mm in this months addition. They took standard issue pistols didn't clean them or lube them and shot 650 rounds. The MP and PPS both performed well, the one thing that stood out to me is that all pistols except the PPS had targets with patterns as big as a large pizza. The PPS had a pattern as big as a grapefruit, like I said very accurate, expecially when using the 8 round mag

Just received the latest Guns and Ammo issue myself. Was pleased the Shield performed so well. Others experienced jams I read. I am interested in this compact model as I prefer a concealable pistol myself.

They're both short 3" barrel compact pistols so performance at self defense ranges will be similar. However considering the great reviews & my personal experience with my shield I would consider the shield 9 or 40 based on that you get TWO magazines vs one mag for the PPS and the Shield is about $200 bux cheaper. Pretty much every LGS will have in stock holsters for the shield & mags are not hard to find.

The PPS now comes with 2 mags (6/7 .40....7/8 9mm). A few years back it only came with one, but Walther has wised up.



PPS is more expensive, but the price has come down, around $475 online....a few years ago it was close to $600.

PPS trigger is 1000% better than stock Shield trigger.

I've been hearing that the Shield is down to around $325. That would be tempting. Walther has just always been a great gun to me. My old WWII P38 is a hard gun to beat despite that bad double action trigger.

I have both the Walther PPS and a Shield (in fact, just bought by second Shield). They are very close in overall size. The PPS is slightly more accurate but the Shield handles better (more nicely contoured and fits my hand better). I carry the Shield most of the time. (I also have a Springfield XDs .45 that I carry if I want something larger than a 9mm. My dream gun would be a .45 Shield.)

I owned a PPS until about a year ago . I was in love with it until I started having problems out of it. Failure to extract , failure to feed failure to eject, you name it. I would have sent it back to Walther but it was out of warranty. (One year warranty). I have owned a shield for a few months now, and have been very happy with it. I will never own another Walther .

I own both a Sheild and PPS in 9mm.

Walther refuses to update the PPS and some fanboys say that it is a perfect gun. I assure you it is not.

Some Shields have a very gritty trigger and some don't. For that reason, I would recommend buying one only if you are able to assess the grittiness factor before purchase. Which means handling and buying one from a LGS rather than from an internet based seller.

I have XDs in .45, PPS in .40 and Shield in 9mm, the Shield is going for trade material.

I had the luck to know a couple of guys..... I was able to shot a Nano and a Shield in 9mm then a PPS in .40 cal. I ended up with a PPS in 9mm and haven't looked back.

to be fair, the Nano had some sort of huge magazine base on it as did the Shield... defeated the purpose of the gun for me. if I could find a Shield without the thumb safety and lower profile magazines I'd trade my PPS for it just because its a S&W...

My wife has a PPS and I have a Shield. After shooting them, and my buddies XDS the other day, she said, "I don't like my PPS." I LOVE my Shield and would get it over the PPS any day (size, cost, performance) are all better IMHO. Admittedly, though, I have not shot the PPS nearly as much as the Shield.

The PPS in .40 is a ****. I went through 4 replacements and finaly had S&W issue me a check for the purchase price vs try a 5th ****. I spent the money on Walther P99 compact in .40 and love it.
No more PPS fo' me.

That's why they make chocolate and vanilla, I like my PPK very much and the much complained about DA first pull is not as bad as advertised.

Of course it's not a carry gun for me here in NJ but it feels silky smooth in my hand.
