Default Shield range report

I figured a while back that it might be fun to get a compact 9mm to shoot in IDPA CCP classification matches. So I picked up a Shield.

I got my new toy yesterday, fieldstripped, cleaned and lubricated it and took it to the range today to break it in.

I ran about 350 rounds through it. Various loadings, lead and FMJ and plated. I had one failure to eject, on a hand loaded round. I figure that was the round and not the weapon. I noted the following.

The gun shot left for me, which virtually all handguns do until I get the sights set up. (I have a visual defect that tends to cause that.) Other than the one failure the weapon ran flawlessly. And the magazines are a bear to load fully, though they get better over time.

All things considered I am, so far, happy with my new toy.

Congratulations. It sounds good but, you know what you need to do, shoot it more! Be safe & enjoy.

Good pick. The one I played with was a very nice shooter for it's size. The mags are a bear, though. Uplula loader was probably the best shooting gift I've ever given my girl.

Congratulations on the new Shield! I hope it works well for you in competition, but I bet it soon becomes an every day carry gun as well. I really think it strikes a great balance between big gun power and little gun proportions.

I second the motion for the Uplula, you may buy it because of the Shield, but unless all of your other handguns are revolvers, you'll find yourself using it for them too, it just makes it that much easier.

I absolutely love both my Shields 9 & 40... I do everything with my shield 9, I practiced with it, passed my CHL with it, carry it daily in a AG IWB holster and now for the past month been using it weekly at our local IDPA matches.... The Shield is a excellent choice!

I am planning to stick with my compact 1911 in .38 super for carry, but one never knows.

Congrats on the new 9mm Shield, just got mine last week and like you said the Mags are a bear to load ! I have a Uplula Monday I was amazed how little recoil I got from a small gun ! Not too crazy for the slide release but Ill get used to it

What are you carrying it in, holsterwise? I'm looking at the Blade Tech Nano IWB but could use some input. I'm very pleased with my 9mm Shield as well.

I am not really carrying it, though I have a Safariland 567 of the type that I customarily use for IDPA shooting that fits it just fine. My serious carry guns I customarily pack in a basic pancake behind my strong-side hip. It works, I am used to it and it conceals well.

As many will say, it's a slide stop, not a slide release. Having said that, after about 500-750 rounds through mine, it got to the point where I could thumb the stop without causing pain. Now, it's smooth as silk and I use it as a slide release. It just takes time.

I got the same answer from a few others. Loaded I do not have a release issue, only closing the slide. on a empty mag! 1 mag no issue . But I do say the Shield is a great shooting pistol. only 3 mags through it, My Lupula will be here tomorrow and Ill burn 300 rounds this week

This is where that 7rnd mag comes in handy.. You can use it as your "barney mag" so you can top off the capacity to 9 rnds. 8 in the mag + one in the chamber. Comes in handy for the bowling pin stage...

Back to the Shield 9mm for IDPA. I failed to mention that I use a OWB kydex holster by Fobus. The only downfall so far is I'm still trying to find a dual mag holster for the shield magazines.
