Default Striker moves with striker block installed

I reassembled my M&P slide and noticed I can move the striker so that the tip protrudes through the hole even with the striker block installed.

At the 6:45 mark, he demonstrates that the striker won't move until he depresses the striker block. I can move the striker whether or not the block is depressed.

What might I be doing wrong? Perhaps the plastic striker spring guide isn't fully seated, thus preventing the striker from clearing the block (it seems like the block doesn't pop up to full height once I push the striker in, so I think the striker might not be clearing the block)? The guide partially covers the tiny hole at the front of the striker channel. Should it be fully covering that hole?

Can someone look at the underside of their M&P slide and let me know if the small hole at the front of the striker channel is completely covered by the plastic sleeve (white, but might be dirty) that sits inside the channel? Thanks!

I think I figured it out. With the slide off the pistol, pushing the striker forward compresses the spring, but the spring doesn't spring back forcibly enough to always push the striker rearward past the block so the striker isn't blocked by the block. But if I push the striker rearward, it does move past the block and engages the block.

Installed the slide and the slide's action reliably pushes the striker rearward enough to engage the block. In fact, after racking the slide a bunch of times, even the spring by itself seems to push the striker rearward enough to engage the block. This is a new striker assembly, so perhaps the spring needed a bit of cycling to break it in?

In case anyone finds this in the future by searching on the same issue - the striker sleeve does NOT fully cover the small hole in the slide. In fact, it cannot as there is a recess in the front of the channel where the hole is, so the sleeve cannot get into that recess.

Non-issue as the action of the slide will move the striker well clear of the block, allowing it to engage.
